Ideally, you don't want to shoot through the thicker black bristles, but the cock feather does not have to pass in the same spot for each arrow. It is best to turn your nocks 1/4 turn at a time, on each arrow until it groups best. This procedure is more important when using carbons, than it is for alumunum arrows. After you do this, load it so none of the fletching passes through the black bristles.
