I raise German Shorthair Pointers and they are great family dogs. I let both of my dogs out and they do not run away. It depends how well you train them also. They are great upland hunting dogs and with the right training they can even be good waterfowl dogs. I have an upcoming litter of german shorthair pointer pups.
