I am going to get a Wlaker in the next few weeks. It will mainly be used at the range as well as close range varmiting. Why not go with the small ones? Well, I would like it to be able to kill whitetails.

My question. I know the smaller pistols are not powerful enough to do the job. I believe the Walker with a heavy charge is. With a fairly heavy charge and a bullet (rather than ball) what centerfire pistol hunting cartridge would this compare to? 357? What are your thoughts on whitetail hunting at bow range with this pistol?
