Either would work. I use to use a 35mm but now just carry my digital cannon with me. I like the fact I don't have to wait for development or burn up film, view the pics and decide if they are worth storing and printing. The down side is zoom, if taking long distance photos but then again most cheaper/smaller 35mm aren't any better. I place mine in a ziploc if wet weather and inside my coat when extremely cold. Uploading to your computer for email, etc is so simple with a digital and you can edit the pictures as you see fit...a big plus!
You may want to consider a video camera with a tripod mount as another possible solution. My buddy does this, it is pretty cool to sit down and view his day events. I have one for the family and will be packing it next fall when i plan on sitting for the day, just to cool to recount the deer and the harvest if so lucky.
