I use to work in a copper mill, thickness doesn't mean a whole lot, the exact alloy, the cuts in the jacket, and the hardness of the lead core are designed to expand within a certain velocity range, once that range is exceeded then expansion becomes erratic. how many pistol cartridges run a .452 bullet at 2200 fps?I don't know where the exact line is drawn as far as velocity range vs. expansion, but I know a .375 235 gr. speer designed for a 375 h&h will not expand at all from my 12" 375 JDJ at 2200 fps. I can vouch for the hornady 300 gr. at 2000 fps from my 458 socom.
