Default do you ever stop and really think through your options?

one of the guys I hunt with rather regularly ,
ask me what caliber AR15 upper he should purchase for one of his AR15 lowers,
he recently purchased at last weeks gun show?....
which he says he needs....., " to hunt hogs with?"
hes been using a marlin in 35 rem and a remington 7600 in 308 to hunt hogs with for decades...
now let me point out that Id be the last one to suggest anyone does not need a new rifle,
Im not a bit jealous, and I wish him the very best..I know he enjoys playing with new rifles...
but I know for a fact this guy owns at least 40 center fire rifles and at least 6 -8 different AR15 uppers already.
5 are 223, one in 300 blk out and ones in 9mm...(I suggested he could use the 223)
I suggested he might just reach into his gun safe and grab one of several dozen currently owned rifle options,
he has ,and yes Im all for him buying anything he wants or can afford as hes single and has a great job,
and hes a dentist... if he wants to buy a new AR15 upper ,
he does not need to justify its purchase
,"because he needs a rifle to hunt hogs with"

honestly he has at least a dozen rifles that would make fine hog hunting rifles
I find it rather humorous, that he thinks he needs to justify his choices.
most hogs shot locally are shot at under 75 yards and they weight less than 200-250 lbs
I have no skin in the game here and I pointed out that he might want to get a
heavy 24" stainless varmint weight barrel caliber like 224 Valkyrie as he does not currently have a good long range varmint rifle,
and he might want to take up hunting coyotes, or bob cats?
or he might want something different.. like a 25-45 Sharps, or a 6.5mm Grendel or a 350 legend,
if he wants to upgrade from his current 223 AR15, and the 300 black out uppers he already owns,
now Im sure not suggesting he not buy a new AR15 upper if he wants one.... but this is not a case of NEED or lack of options.
I personally see this as a bit of a joke, .... that he thinks he needs to justify a purchase.
hell, if he wants something he can certainly afford it.
most of us don't have the disposable cash this guy has...,
but I find it rather interesting that he thinks its a critical choice... really its simply a pleasant diversion.
