You really need to stay in the 3-4 foot range. I break a 1 inch stick and place it behind the camera to give me a 15 degree turn forward. You may want to get a security box if you are worried about theft.

If you can't reach the animals I would consider placing the camera on the RUN/PATH where they enter or exit the field or open space you have mentioned.

Your Moultrie is a great camera, Browning is another good one in my experience. Good Luck!
