Keep in mind “the rut” isn’t like a light switch, on or off. Some does, inexplicably come in earlier. I found 1 day old twin fawns on May 18th one year on my farm in a field I was mowing (Va). That puts conception in late October...why, no idea. Things ramp up over a period of time. Bucks begin cruising more in daylight. Then a doe here or there start comes and finally lots of does come into heat and the woods goes crazy with chasing and peak breeding and seeking. It’s always over a couple week period and extensive research has proven that it falls very consistently in any region at the same time every year...give or take a day. Lastly, it’s also been proven that the moon phase doesn’t matter when it falls. I hear you on timing because where I am in Va I’ve been losing my mind wondering about this years rut, which was supposed to be intense and hasn’t been here.
