Go with a cartridge based BP gun like my .500 BPE side x side lemoyne. Best of both worlds
Of course finding them on the cheap is a task unto itself I will warn you of that. The quality ones that are well tuned and the barrels matched for yardage anyway. Over many years of collection and shooting I have been pretty lucky with estate sales and such.
