Split the difference and get the marlin336 in .35rem. In all seriousness, ive probably killed 10-12 deer with a marlin in 30-30 and zero with a 45-70, so I could give an honest answer to your question.
But I have shot the marlin guide & 1895 and prefer the 1895. As WV Hunter said shot placement will determine DRT more than caliber/cartridge. I have shoulder shot a few with different calibers and the one that tore up the most meat was the 243.
