This is exactly why I recommended to a member awhile back to not get too excited about the proposed change and to just go get himself either an older T/C Contender or a newer T/C Encore and put a barrel for a rifle caliber on it. Handguns are legal and nothing in the laws of IN say they can't be in a rifle caliber. If you have such a handgun you can cleanly take deer out to more than 200 yards and you don't have to worry about the politicians getting stupid.

I've got an old T/C Contender with a barrel chambered in 7mm TCU which is basically a .223 necked up to 7mm. A handloaded 120 gr Nosler BT will tip over whitetails really nicely. Mine is topped with a 2X Leupold pistol scope.
