So, in all of Pa. You can only see 10ft?
That is where the bears live. And, our property was clear cut about 20 years ago, so most of the area is extremely thick. I'm just saying that we don't spot and stalk bears where I hunt. We hunt them in heavy cover. When it's only you, that generally means you pick a stand on the edge of the cover and hope for the best. Other guys put on drives, but I don't hunt bear with a big group.

You went to Canada, and hunting over bait. Was that all you could do there too, or was it just the easiest?
We hunted with an outfitter and this is the only way they hunt. the guide drives you off and puts you in a stand and picks you up after dark. That's the only choice.

I don't know what to tell you. We hunt our property which is very thick. We stand hunt because that's what works the best. Spot and stalk doesn't work. I've actually lost track about how we got to this point. I think it had to do with me defending those who hunted with bait or dogs in states that allow it. Our state does not so we do not hunt with either. You mentioned an article or a show where someone got a bear in Alaska through spot and stalk. That's great. If I was in Alaska or British Columbia, I would do the same.

I won't hunt black bears out of state because we have them here. I got one several years ago and that's off my bucket list. i just wanted my son to get one and he was not old enough to hunt bear in PA at first as mentored youth can't hunt bear. So, we looked out of state. They hunt over bait. Oh well, that seemed like an easy hunt for a young kid. Plus, they had fishing in the morning.
