I am doing the same thing this year, except I am putting my plot in an area that is less than half a mile to agricultural fields. I'm hoping the deer will use it as they are migrating from bedding areas to the fields, at least 30 minutes or so before dark. They usually aren't in the fields until dark due to hunting pressure.

I would think you could hold some deer in the area, but there is no real way to know until you try. 1.5 miles is not a lot for a deer to travel, but the question is whether their "home range" will include both your food plots and the fields.
