.30-06 or .300 Win. Mag for deer, hogs, and MAYBE elk???
I'm getting a left handed stainless/laminate Ruger Hawkeye from my wife for Christmas.
I've found a dealer that has a few left, one in 06' and one in .300 winny.
I hunt hogs throughout the year, and of course deer during season. Shots range from 50-300 yards, but 99% of the time under 150-175. My father and I keep talking about planning an elk hunt in the next 3-4 years, but who knows if that will actually happen.
There's always been something about the .300 Winny I've loved, even though I've never owned one. I shoot my Dads .270, .30-06, and 7 mag quite a bit and I'm very comfortable with all three.
So, should I be "sensible" and choose the 06' or get the .300 that I know isn't needed (but might be welcomed if that elk hunt does materialize)?
06' and .300 Win. Mag. shooters chime in.
