Default RIP `One small but pretty doe

I woke up to a hard rain, not a thunder storm, but a hard rain. Since I planned a old school lean against a tree and see how it goes hunt, I felt it was to cold to get wet. I went back to sleep and woke up 3 hours later with a desire to go do some scouting on a field I have been wanting to hunt. I figured since it was not raining I would set up against a tree I like and do alittle hunting.

I went to the office and checked in and headed around the back side and went down to the field. I thought I saw a deer in the back(1000 yards or so) I looked and since it was not moving figured it for those weird weed deer that seem to be everywhere. I drove down the access drive for a oil pump, when I got about 250 yards from the wood line I notice the “weed” deer was in fact a 250 pound doe .
As I sat there figuring if I should drive up and see if she would let me get out and give her a 250 grain shockwave to play with I saw her slowly start to walk down the field. So I hoped out and got my muzzleloader and set it on my door jam.

My range finder was having a mind of it’s own and was reading between 40 and 242 yards. Since I had obsessed over the map of the field I had took a line on google maps and ran a 250 yard line around the edge of the wood line and new 250 yards was 40 yards down the road from the pump. With her at 10 yard or so from the wood line I knew she was dam close to 240 yard .

I was worried about taking a 240 yard shot on my first deer with my muzzleloader. Though two weeks before I had took two 250 yard shoots to check my omega bdc scope and triumph. The bdc was dead on with the 150 grains of 777 and the shockwave 250.

I laid my last circle dead on her heart and boom, she ran 20 yards straight in the field and the 10 yards back into the woods. So I drove to the pump and went to the spot I shot her.

And here come the nerving part. I went to the spot she was in (no blood no hair, NOTHING) SO I walked down the wood line and nothing, no blood of any kind. Thinking I missed her, I nearly walked away, but felt a good through walk into the woods was needed. I went 25 or 30 yards into the woods and nothing.
I looked around for 20 minutes and turn to look down a dry creek bed. There she laid in the dry creek bed and I nearly cried as I saw her.
I went back to the truck dropped my triumph off and grapped my gerber knife. I went back and begain gutting my first deer. FUN FUN FUN, I said alittle pray for her andwent home.

I dropped her off at the butcher and got the name of a good taxidermist. I did not want to drop 450 on a mount. Though he is sending the skull in for a euro mount, DIPPPED IN CAMO and going to do a light tan on the hide. In the end 350 for that, The main reason for not mounting her is I cut her way to high and he thought it would not look right.
This was a 7 year fight hunting Kentucky, north Carolina only to come home to Indiana to kill my first deer. Ohh the 250 pound deer was really about 100 pounds, I could swear she was really 250 pounds, but she could have spots and two heads and I would not care.
So for my first deer it was a weird hunt, not one I expected, with a 240 yard muzzleloader shot on a small but soon to be tasty doe.

I want to thank everyone on here who has helped me for ohh 4 maybe 5 years. With out you guys I would have been lost, well lost more then I am now.

Ohh shot went through the lungs and a chuck of the heart. Prefect shot

Here are some pics of her.
