Shooting an inappropriate round for the game is unethical. Shooting too far, at moving game, with poorly sighted equipment is unethical. Making shots due to peer pressure is unethical. Shooting an animal for bragging rights and not for food is unethical. Who here is 100% ethical? If your goal is to eat the animal, and you are 1/2 way proficient with your weapon and know its limitations, how is a head shot any less ethical? Sorry about the deer not being so pretty after being shot...give it a day, and see the pile of carnage that is left over from the butchering.
