In the wonderful world of ML barrels - there are no standards. One companies 50 cal may not and probably will not have the same bore diameter as that of another company. Even within the company the 50 cal bore may vary from .499 to .502/3. Since there is not an exact standard it does allow the manufacturer to extend the use of some cutting tools and does not require a tight inspection system.... benefit - less expensive.
That is the reason for all the different sized sabots.
Mike I guess then that's the reason when you get a real (Shooter) you should keep it, shotgun, Rifle, MLer, ect...I have always wondered why the exact same gun will shoot differently with the exact same load, that explains it. But you'd think they all should be the same size bore as the other in the same model.
It's like I have a OLD H&R 10guage, extra full choke that I use to use for Turkeys and Geese. I could kill a Turkey at 50yds and he'd never move a muscle, yet a friend had the same gun and he couldnt hit crap with it with the same load and missed many Birds. It's like they have a mind of there own, either there good, not so good or bad, and we have to make good on the one we get.
