BTB,
This is the DCNR report from Elk SF in 2g. Is this the kind of regeneration you think HR should have produced.
These surveys indicate that regeneration across the forest outside of protected (fenced)
areas is poor and the presence of undesirable competing vegetation is widespread. The
following is a summary of 2009 survey findings on 2533 sample plots.
• 2.55% of the plots were adequately stocked with desirable species, this is up from
1.4% in 2008
• 11.57% of the plots had desirable species, this is up from 2.8% in 2008
• 33.3% of the plots had no regeneration, 19.6% of the plots had no regeneration in
2008
• 96.5% of the plots that were sampled had factors that inhibit or compete with
natural regeneration
WMU has the lowest DD of any WMU in the state and DCNR says only 2.55% of the plots had adequate regeneration!!!
