I'm going to agree with Wingbone on this. Although the weapon certainly is a trustworthy and capable weapon, if it were me then I would not buy one for a starting shooter/hunter. If you do then I would certainly go for the 308 models. I've seen them actually cheaper than the 223 models at gun shows and the bullet is better suited for deer.
