It's pretty common for an unsuccessful hunter to pass the blame.
Folks with little experience with hounds & hunting make that claim.
Fact is, unless you are training dogs to run deer, any hound that will
run deer isn't going to tree cat/coon/bear regular. Most houndsmen I know will kill the dog if he can't break him of it. If the pack runs past and jump deer, it seems the deer (Blacktail anyway) just stand aside and watch the race. Elk will leave the area though.
