Default 30.06 and shotgun coyote rounds?

So I've seen and heard more and more coyotes up north this year than ever and I'd like to try calling some this winter after deer season. The only problem is the only 2 weapons I could use would be either my 30.06 deer rifle w/ a 3-9X40 scope or my 12 ga Rem. Wingmaster in 3". I'd like to use the rifle so I don't have to get them right in my lap as it will be my first time trying to call coyotes, but I'm worried the 30.06 will tear them in half and there would be nothing left. I know this is kind of a bigger gun to be using for coyotes, but are there lighter loads out there, like I use 150 grain for deer, would I be able to find like a 100 grain cartridge? Should I try and get some fmj's if I can and they're legal? What about a shotgun load, because If I decide to hunt around home, it's in a shotgun only zone. Thanks for the info!
