Yes indeed!! Split-Hoof was the name several of us gave to a monstrous buck that nobody was ever able to kill. He was called that because of his drastically splayed tracks. Many people saw him, some even got shots at him, but noone was ever able to connect. My cousin saw the buck on a couple occasions, and said that the rack reminded him more of an elk than a deer! At one point he had a clear shot at him, only to find that the gun wouldn' t fire. He grabbed his son' s gun (his son had fallen asleep) and attempted to shoot again, but that gun would not fire either. He later found out that his gun suffered from a faulty firing pin, and with the other gun it was a dud cartridge

!! A couple of others were lucky enough to get shots at the monster, but buck fever seemed to lead the bullets astray. In the end, we believe he died of old age after achieving local legend status.
I give each monstrous buck I hunt a nickname....I find it adds to the excitement
