before I ever shoot them I back the screw out and slather it with super glue then screw it back in. that way the never work their way loose. I have also had them just "wallow" out the hole and just fall out making it where you can't put another one back in. super glue first seems to fix this as well. also if you do loose one or break one keeping a small piece of 1/2 pvc on the boat is pretty handy. put the new safety slide on the knock the slide the piece of pipe on too, the give is a sharp smack off the deck of the boat and it'll shove that thing right on there. nothing is full proof though.....just like with everything else in the hunting industry if they did not break you would never have to buy anything new.
