Default RE: Where did you shoot your deer This year?

ORIGINAL: dejager

shot at a doe seven times six misses and droped it at 175 yds with a 20 guage in the neck
Umm... maybe get a little closer next time...[:@]

Contrary to much of the ammo manufacturers hype, a shotgun with slugs is NOT a good 200 yard gun. In the hands of a highly skilled marksman who knows his gun, with an (unusually) accurate slug gun and modern sabot slugs it's doable, but if it took you seven shots to connect, one or more of the above isn't present.

At least when you finally hit it (got lucky?), you killed it cleanly, but did you ever stop to think about the very real possibility that you could have wounded that animal and never recovered it? There's more to hunting than just blasting away until something dies. Get closer, pick your shots, and have the dicipline to pass on a shot when you're not certain that you can make a clean, quick and ethical kill. Spray 'n' Pray has no business in the hunting woods.
