Each point is considered individually by comparing it to its match on the other side. Thus, the difference for each pair is subtracted.

To say it another way, you'll only get net credit for the smallest of each matching pair, multiplied by 2.

For example, if the brow tines (G1's) are 4 7/8 and 4 3/8, the difference is 4/8. Add the 2 measurements together andsubtract the difference:
4 7/8+ 4 3/8 - 4/8 = 8 6/8.

By doing it using the second method I suggested:
4 3/8 x 2 = 8 6/8.
