Similar to SouthDakota,

I hit a 6 point from a high angle in the backstrap or where the ribs start. THe arrow was sticking out about half way.Similar experience with blood trail - a lot at first and got excited and trailed too early.

About a week later, I was scouting a ditch crossing about 100 yards from where I shot the deer and I found a big blob of fairly fresh coagulated blood from where it jumped the ditch. Can't be sure it was the same deer, but likely, and made me feel a hair better.
