Our "primative arms" season opens Nov. 8th. My plan is to be sitting on my high chair in the woods at 0'Dark Hundred with the .54 Great Plains flintlock. Double checked my 95 grain hunting load on Saturday at 50, 75 and 100 yards (targets below). I think I'm ready for my first flintlock deer.
Here's the
50 yard, 5-shot target.
And the
75 yard 5-shot target.
And the
100 yard 5-shot target. Don't know what happened with that one at the very top of the target, but I'm pretty
sure it was my fault. Gotta` tell `ya, I'm pretty happy with those other four. I sure can't do any better than that with
iron sights at 100 yards.
All targets were shot with a 6 o'clock hold on the bull. It looks like dead on at 75 yards puts it 2" high at 50 and
2" low at 100. What more could you ask for (other than better eyesight and shooting skills

)????
Here's my high chair in the piney woods - real comfortable, safe andeasy to get into (16 ft. high).
Here's the view from the chair. There's an active deer cross-trail about 50 yards down that logging cut.
The gun is ready. The stand is ready.I'm ready. I sure hope the deer are ready.
