Default RE: GPS for Father's Day

I would also 2nd the Garmin units. They are a heck of a lot simpler to use than the Lowrance that my buddy has.

As for the model, if your dad will be using this primarily in open areas then one of the Legend series will work great. I have an eTrex Legend Cx and I am very pleased with it, save one issue. If you get up under a tree canopy, you will loose your satellite lock for sure. I have heard that all of the handheld units that have no external antenna are like that.

For better reception, go with one of the 60 series units with the external helical antenna. This is supposed to be quite a bit more sensitive than the patch antenna of the eTrex series.
