Lemoyne the book I got with my .50 hawken say the max load is 70 gr. of pyrodex RS with a rb. Can I safely shoot more than the recommended max load?
Thanks,

A lot of times they will suggest 70 grains of Pyrodex RS and a patched roundball as being perhaps the most accurate and best hunting load. BUT most rifles will handle 100 grains or more. STILL I do not recommend going over what the manufacturer says is the max load. In my T/C manual it lists 110 grains of FFG as the max load. In my Lyman manual they list 110 grains as the max load for a .50 caliber. The Investarms manual lists 70 grains as the recommended load. I got the Investarms manual and the Lyman manual with the same rifle.. so you can judge for yourself. CVA & Traditions list 100 grains as a max load with a roundball.
So I personally think you would be safe shooting more then 70 grains.
