What type of rifle is best for Elk harvesting?
Use the search feature (search "elk rifle")and you will find a pleathora of info on this topic. Bottom line, there is no best, there is only ones opinion. You can't go wrong with the above recommendation or 100 other opinions you will find on which caliber.

As far as ammo, that is the cheapest part of your trip, so don't skimp. Stay with premium ammo with nosler partitions, accubonds, failsafe, trophy bonded bear claw, etc. Find one that shoots the most accurately and you will be fine. I use federal premiums in 160 grain. Most people opt for bullets in the 160 to 180 grain range. Of course it depends on the rifle. I also have a 338 win. mag that I use 225 grsfed. premiums.

Onebigelk: you got the wrong elknut. That one is named Paul and lives in wyoming. Try bowsite.com for asking him a question.
