The cool thing about USGI Colt Pistolsis they stopped making them in 1945 (I think) and it was not uncommon to find original 1911's (before the 1911A1's) in WWII and even Korea. My father remembers seeing original 1911's while he was in Korea.
That's what I love about these old guns, you can use your imagination about what they have seen in their service life. For all I know this pistol could have (probably did) seen service in the trenches of WWI, the Beach's at Normandy or the desert inNorth Africa. Perhapsthe Yalo river in Korea or even the Tet offensive in Viet Nam.
These pistols were repaired as needed and put back into service until they were replaced with the Beretta. Some made it through in all original condition, others (most) were re-arsenals and sold as surplus but all rich with American history.
Yes...if it could only talk what a story it would tell.
