After an exhaustive search to upgrade my Montana Black Gold hunting sight, I bought this Spot-Hogg Right on. I was looking for the best, rugged, well made sight on the market. I think I found it.
The MBG is a great sight, and has done its job well for almost seven years. But in the interest of stirring this great nation’s economy, it was time to shell out some bucks.
Construction: The Right-on is made entirely of machined 6061 aircraft aluminum. It is the most solid, well built hunting site I have ever seen. Dovetails are held down by ¼-20 allen bolt. When cranked down they are going nowhere, period.
Pins: The pins are also 6061 Alum. And are the strongest pins I have found. These pins are .019, and do not bend. They seem to hold good light though I have not tried to shoot outdoors at dusk – too darn cold!
Finish: Spot-Hog sells there sights like Ford used to sell there first Model-T, You can get it in any color you want, as long as it’s black. The Iridite seems solid, I guess time will tell. Camo would be a real bonus.
Adjustability: Gang adjustments are beefy dovetails and slide very easily. Micro-pin adjustments are a little more complicated than other sights I have use. Because of the angled pin bodies, you have to adjust both the windage and elevation. Horizontal adjustments are done by a set of allen bolts, you back one out and tighten the other. Windage elevations are simply done by tightening or loosening the silver allen bolt.
Not bad at all once you get the hang of it, and once they are set they will not move.
Weight : At 5.76 ounces it weighs only .4 ounces more than a trophy ridge flatliner extreme. Not bad at all for a 100% alum sight.
Noise: None
This sight comes with a vertical ss steel wire running through the pin guard. It seems strong, though is probably the week link of the sight. I have never used one before, but so far I like the vertical line.
The Spot-Hoggs are IMO some of the very best built sights available, solid as a rock and well worth the $90.00 bucks.
