Just got back from Texas. It was tough hunting but I was able to put down two birds. Bird 1 weighed 19.2 lbs., has a 9.2" beard, and two good spurs at 1 1/8". He scores 60.025. Bird 2 is a stud. He weighed 21.6 lbs., has a 10" beard, and spurs at 1 1/2" and just under 1 1/2". He scores 70.75. I'll post the pics in a bit. Congrats EFH and springspur on your birds. I will submit the scores later tonight.

Nice work boys!!!! You guys are tearin em up! Got my kids out today and had em shoot a bit, I think they're ready to go. Also did a little scouting afterwards and found a few birds anyways. Just over a week to go here!

Guys, you are really getting some nice birds, was looking at the scoring thread and our team is tearing it up. I've sworn off jakes for the rest of the year(although the turkey nuggets my youngest son made tonight will make that a hard promise to keep!) there's 3 longbeards on a property I hunt I nicknamed the 3 kings that travel together, and I've only seen them from a distance. They are call shy, and decoy shy and the hens are still flying up to roost so no nests yet I guess. they only gobble once and then get henned up. a tough nut to crack until the hens start sitting the nests. I'll be trying ambush strategy the next time I go out. then regicide reigns hopefully. Good luck all and let the feathers fly!

Springspur, hens might leave them later in the day to start laying. Don't know how long you can hunt or stay in the woods, but midday and evening can be great times to get on these birds! Also if the are roosted in the same area when you go, get in there a couple hours before fly up and call every 15-20min. Just some ideas.......other than that if you can ambush them go for it! Some people don't like that, but personally I'll do what it takes to get one. I think it's fun figuring each bird out and working with what he offers and using calls, terrain and woodsman ship to get em! Good luck with them, hope you get to pepper ones head!!
