T-minus one week and counting for me.....

mookyj 03-08-2014 12:36 PM

Hey guys, just checking in, I'll be in Texas on the 26th, and will hunt a few days while in town, then it will be my home state, possibly PA and or VT. Let me know if any of you will be up in my neck of the woods!

Welcome to the team Mookyj and King Arther! Glad to have ya.
Sounds like Baldeagle will have us on the board by next weekend, good luck!!
Still don't look anything like turkey season here, slowly starting to warm up tho. Season don't start till like the 20th of April.
Name and logo works for me. Sounds like Baldeagle will be the first one hunting, is anyone else getting close?

Treebeard 03-09-2014 06:00 PM

Treebeard 03-09-2014 06:16 PM

Hey Bald9Eagle that is a great idea lets do a team contest I will throw in a brand new box call for the biggest scored team gobbler!
If we can get some prizes going great I know we all play here for free and some of us dont have a lot so each prize doner would have to pick up the shipping
No need to worry if ya cant throw a prize in we are a team and that is what matters so the contest is open to the team!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EEK! Let's not get too excited there.

bald9eagle 03-09-2014 09:39 PM

870 is usually around these parts quite a bit.

As to the prizes I just wanted to do something fun. I make calls so I don't expect guys to go out and buy something to give out. I literally can have as little as 3$ invested in a slate call so it's not a huge deal to me

Treebeard 03-10-2014 07:03 AM

Ya no worries I won the box call in a draw :)

JW 03-10-2014 08:16 AM

I will call dog1 on the phone - dang it as he is not responding to his e-mails.

I have sent e-mails to all and we start replacing soon.

Had some trouble, had to update my email address and password. Glad to be on board, good luck to all. dog1

JW 03-10-2014 04:52 PM

Okay that explains it - good to see you dog1 but we are on competing teams.....

But I will say this......the dog will be you at least 2 good birds....or you can have mine!

He is a good turkey hunter, sort ugly and cantankerous but a good turkey hunter.

may the Mist be with you!

Good luck baldeagle. I'm so jealous.

Well.....I stunk it up. This was the first time I ever set foot on this WMA. I went in totally blind. I set down waiting for sunrise on a large poplar tree and napped for 30 minutes or so. At first light some hens started chattering about 80 yards below me. 3-4 toms sounded off up and down the hollow but none real close. I answered the hens and got a tom to answer about 100-120 yards slightly to my left. At this point I was afraid to move. The tree I was on was just for sleeping and listening...lol. The tom gobbled 2 times and flew down. Within 10 minutes he is coming right to me. I adjusted when he went behind a tree expecting him to continue on his path straight to me. Instead he stayed left and went behind a little rise. I twisted as much as I could waiting for him to reappear. When he did he was about 30 yards up the road I walked in on. I had to readjust again with nothing between me and him. I committed a cardinal sin and didn't shoulder my gun. Thought I could get away with it. The gun was actually on my bicep because I was twisted so far around. I have a Burris Speed Bead on my gun and had it on him but my cramped, awkward position caused me to shoot low. I hit him with a load of Nitros #7's. I really wish I had the 4's,5's,7's load in instead. He did a funny little flop turn and caught one more load as he ran up the hill. All this happened at 6:55 am in an area that I have never set foot on in my life. Kinda sickened.

buckman11 03-16-2014 05:17 AM

man that stinks, at least theres still a lot of season left

RJPOUTDOORS 03-16-2014 04:01 PM

Just a little under a month before our season opens here in KY. Went yesterday while it was in the 60's and sunny and checked a coupld of fields for sign. Returned this morning to listen and stuff, right before day break wind picked up to like 20 mph and rain. Now it is snow and has been for almost an hour. Keeping my winter hunting clothes in the house a little longer might need them come April. Good Hunting.

buckman11 03-19-2014 07:57 AM

we had another snowstorm come through this weekend:sad: I have started to see a few more gobblers here and there the last couple days. just a hair over 3 weeks here in sw mo.
