Phil from Maine 03-26-2014 06:43 AM

Yeah, by brother in Tenn.. says it is crazy where he is as well. I am just wondering if I am going to have to turkey hunt by snowmobile this season as we currently have yet another storm rolling in that can give us another 20+ inches.. I know once turkey season is done I am most likely going ground hog hunting.. That way I know he will not see his shadow here... lol

Phil from Maine 03-27-2014 01:29 AM

I am thinking this last storm blew all our turkey out in the next country.. We got a blasting that is for sure.. While I can not say how much we got in inches which for us northerners does not appear to bad,, The wind however was mostly in the 50 to 60 mph range. We did recieve some heavey gusts of up to 114 mph where I am at. So if I can find them during our end of April hunting season I doubt I will have to pluck them.. I am betting there is turkey feathers buried all threw the snow now..

JW 03-27-2014 04:34 AM

Well Phil a new batch is on its way - sorry to say - we got another 3 to 4 last night and its still snowing!

I think we are getting it now.. It met up with another storm from the south that is bringing in rain and freezing rain. Over an inch of rain so far and more tonight and into the morning hours.. Flood watches are up due to possible river ice breaking up.. So hopefully this means the big start to our snow melting and a great turkey season starting on my weeks vacation..

firelt72 03-30-2014 08:31 AM

JW is your guy doing the no snow dance?

Teebugg 03-31-2014 07:55 AM

Phil from Maine 04-08-2014 05:08 PM

I have to wait for 20 more days before I can start hunting.. But I have 86 miles of field I can hunt out on the pipeline and power lines that always has turkeys hanging around it.. With all the snow doing the melting now it should be great hunting once our season opens up..
Plus out back of the house here I have a few turkeys walking threw still. So it is starting to shape up to be a great year of turkey hunting..

Arrowmaster 04-08-2014 06:21 PM

All I can say is once April 21st is here the Arrowmaster (aka Turkey Wizard) will put some numbers up for the Butterball Bandits. I will sit tight, enjoy the show and lay the smack down on the first mature tom that shows his head. Oh its coming and I can feel it. Let the rush begin. Sit back and watch the dominate Butterball Bandits dominate the contest. Everyone else is playing for second. But in all reality everyone please be safe and good hunting to all my turkey huntng brothers and sisters. :)

Exactly how it should always be.. Just enjoy your hunting whether you get any turkey or not. Enjoy your day out there and remember that getting any turkeys is a bonus to a decent day enjoyed out in the great out doors.. There is a lot of folks that do not know what they are missing..

Bad day of hunting is better than a good day at work! The weather is finally changing and im getting supet excited! May 1st is within sight finally!

Arrowmaster 04-15-2014 07:05 PM

Caught this on trail cam. Needless to say he will wrap up the contest once I put him on the ground

Phil from Maine 04-15-2014 07:20 PM

I do not see much of a beard and no spurs.. He is beatable.. Oh yeah, I just noticed your turkey is being roasted so it will be loosing wieght.. Besides that where the heck is his other leg? Did you shoot it off already so he can not run away??

Although it will a tough one because he must wiegh in at close to a ton..

If they are running around with hip boots on will it count??
As right now almost the entire state is under flood watches as all that white stuff keeps melting and a day and a half of rain is causing the water to rise..

Phil from Maine 04-23-2014 02:38 PM

Hey what is going on? Has anyone heard from Arrowmaster and if he happened to shoot turkzilla yet? I am betting he is giving it a great try!

Anyways I had to say something as this thread appears to be sinking at the moment.. I just know it, that team 5 is going to win this little contest.. ☺☺☺☺

Phil from Maine 04-25-2014 05:14 PM

Come on guys every team just about is scoring turkeys so what do you say? Lets hear some of the smack talk and keep this thread going.. So lets hear it.. This is a great thread to get the teams moral boosted up over who is gonna get that turkzilla..

jmedenf 04-26-2014 09:48 PM

My longest beard by far: 11 1/2". He had one strand to make up the extra half inch. He was the dominant tom in the area and I've been watching him all week while I tried setting up a couple of new hunters on him. First day hunting for myself and he fell when he tripped over some #5's that rolled out of my smokepole. Anyone else having much luck out there?

Phil from Maine 04-27-2014 12:08 AM

Congrats! My longest beard was last year at
11 1/4 inches.. I am hoping to match that this year or perhaps even longer.. I will be after them come Monday!! I can hardly wait to bast a cap on one!!

jepcho 05-01-2014 03:19 PM

Congrats! That's a great beard. My longest is 11". I've shot alot in the 10 to 10.75 range, and some nice think ones, but cant seem to break that 11" mark.

Phil from Maine 05-12-2014 03:06 PM

Turkzilla has been shot by a member of team # 5 catch us if you can! We have hunters still hunting and we just know it has been a really great year for us!! We hope to be laying even more smack on the birds! Good Luck trying to catch us..

xOEDragonx 05-12-2014 03:27 PM

Things are quiet on Team 3's score reports page... but I'm sure it's because everyone is letting the sissy 10 inch beard 1 inch spur birds walk so that they can bag that bigger bird they've been eyeing up, right?

My longest beard is 12" even, eastern shore Maryland bird that grew up fattening himself up on corn and soybeans. There's some monster birds in this state, but that's only because they have ideal conditions and great food sources with fewer hunters. He was actually named "Gobblezilla" in a North American Hunter magazine article XD

Phil from Maine 05-12-2014 03:52 PM

One twelve inch beard does not touch the five beards on turkzilla.. Go turkzilla! Carry our team threw the end of this contest!

Phil from Maine 05-25-2014 06:32 AM

Well teams if you are going to catch us you had better hurry up and get it done..

superstrutter 05-31-2014 06:08 PM

This for team 5. I see you want to all of a sudden change the rules so you can win the contest. I also see that you now want to change rules so you can keep the same team together for next years contest. Some of you are even saying I don't want to be in next years contest if I can't be on the same team. Put your big boy pants on and throw away the tissue. It's just a contest for fun. It means nothing. I personally believe all teams should change each year, even the winning team, and I have been on three winning teams. You made a good run. Congrats on a great season.

No one wants to change the rule.. Fair play is fair play and all birds should be reported in a timely manner is exactly the way we see it.. Nothing else.. heck we could of posted birds up from years past could we not?? How would you know when the bird was shot?? I guess by sandbagging in order to shine must be part of the rules?? So no need to report any birds until the end of the contest right?

We also noticed you have failed to put the date and time of kill down on that last bird.. That is part of the rules is it not? You can try and explain to me all you want on how that bird was shot yesterday.. I will not be buying into that theory..( Everything has been green way up this way for a while now.. )

Hey SS, its the way it ended that has left a bad taste in our mouth. On the last day of the contest a jake gets posted that was obviously not shot on the last day of the contest. If it would have been posted after harvest than we would not be having this conversation. I personally will be in the contest next spring, and also hope my fellow teammates will as well.
