Not only did I get skunked yesterday, the only thing I saw besides squirrels was a skunk. I blame the full moon...

I got out one morning earlier in the week and something spooked a couple of deer my way. I had a doe at 10 yards, but she was behind a sapling for a minute or so, then trotted off to find her friend. Jumped some deer in the dark on the way in. I think the full moon had them moving earlier than normal.

At least I saw a few does tonight. No shots though. I let a doe pass at about 35 yards, she was walking away and I didn't want to risk a long shot on a moving deer. Heading out tomorrow afternoon again, at least that's the plan.

Taking out the girlfriend's little brother throughout the week for youth season. Still another week to go before I can hunt!

Saw some does this morning, but no shot. A flock of turkeys were running around making a racket and had the deer on edge. They moved past my stand farther north than normal to get away from the turkeys. Hope everone can get out in the woods soon. It was great to get back out into the sights and sounds of fall. Do we need to select a team captain?

Screwed up tonight. Had a doe and a little one feeding their way towards me. I'm not sure what the hell I was thinking, but I ended up shooting the little one. It turned out to be a button buck. I'm pretty peeved at myself. Does this count at all for the contest?

Been out a few times but it's been to damn hot here. The weather finally broke a bit and went out yesterday and there was good activity. 5 Bucks and two does. I passed a big bodied 6 pt at 4 yards yesterday. The rack wasn't anything special maybe 14-15 inside so I let down on him. When I first saw the body (before rack) I was like oh boy here we go. He won't get the pass if its the 3 week of November. I' m headed to Pulaski NY Sunday night for 3 days of salmon fishing then headed back home to MD to muzzle loader hunt the early season next Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
