Did not see a darn thing tonight, wind was swirling like crazy. No hunting on Sunday so I may head down to finally pull my camera cards today.

what is an average deer for most of you guys in your local hunting areas?
I hunt locally and the avg deer is actually only a 1.5 year old buck.. sometimes a 2.5 year old. Hunting pressure is crazy around here... and there are big chunks of land w/ very little agriculture. As bad as it sounds, any deer with the bow is good around here in MA or NY.
I do go out to Western NY every year and hunt with a guy who intensely manages a couple thousand acres. He wants nothing but 3.5 year olds shot that generally go P&Y or better. I have hunted there 6 years and shot 3 very nice bucks, a cull buck, and took a 2.5 year old by accident one year. It happened so fast.
CT has alot of deer, but I rarely see big ones..

I can count on seeing a few 2.5 yr olds that are hard to pass on every year, sometimes I just can't And almost every year I get at least a brief encounter with a 120+ deer, it's just depends on if everything goes right. I know there are at least 4-5 150+ deer around our property, but they usually only become visible during daylight when the rut starts.

On our lease we try to take bucks at 4 1/2+. While the place is low fence/free range we seem to keep a lot of our deer so I often have pictures of bucks over multiple years. Based on this my buck last year was 5 1/2 and the year before that was at least 6 1/2. This year I have 4 or 5 bucks coming to my setups that are mature enough to kill.
