Congrats to you and the family for sure! I have had trouble getting a shot at a decent buck also. Had an opportunity at a pretty good seven this past Saturday on the opener of muzzleloader, and now kind of wish I had taken it. He was an older buck, just had a small rack for his age. Probably would've measured in 80 to 85 inch range. Things are starting to heat up a little bit here in Tennessee, though. Hopefully in the next few days I can get a buck with my muzzleloader, and then go back to the bow for the rest of the year. Three buck tags, so hopefully I can put at least a couple on the ground. Good luck everyone!

congrats RackLuster on connecting your last day!
Finished my last day of the PA season this weekend coming up empty. It seems like most of the nice shooters have vacated my hunting areas. Last buck on my trail cams was on 11/6. Last weekend had a number of encounters with smaller bucks including a 4 different spikes and a fork horn unicorn with a broken left mainbeam. This weekend had another spike show up and this nine point that came in with the wind at his back. He stopped about 38-40 yards away, a little further than I would like. He was right at a one of my drag lines and was hoping he would follow that trail to a 20 yard shot from my stand. I thought I could grunt him a little closer, but he was not buying what I was selling and turned and walked away from my stand. Oh well maybe I'll have better luck hunting some different areas with the rifle after thanksgiving

Well no bow buck for me last week. My first day of bow hunting Indiana was Friday the 15th and I saw 4 different deer over 135"! but they were either out of range or didn't offer a shot. Then gun season started and everything went to ****. I ended up picking up the shotgun on Monday the 18th and put a decent 7 pointer and a doe on the ground.
The IL gun season was pretty bad for us as well. We normally hear 20 shots by 10 am on opening day but I am gonna bet we maybe heard 20 shots all day. It was a bad weekend. We had 7 guys in camp and we only killed 2 deer.

I've been a little slack here lately, but firearms season is almost over and ;ate archery begins on the 1st. We can bowhunt during firearms here, but I prefer it when the activity isn't so intense. Latest buck I saw was a decent one going across my front lawn a couple days ago when the neighbor's kids were coming out to get the school bus, so I just sat and watched it mosey away.

Well team, good news and bad news. As mentioned above, late archery season started today. Since it has ben a very slow season, I decided to seize the opportunity that was offered, a significantly small buck. I haven't scored it yet but kind of have my doubts that it will even score as much as a doe would be worth for us. Ah well, it has some steaks on it and now I can sleep in.
The short story - we've had a good kick of snow a 2 or 3 times in the last few days and I hoped the deer would become more visible. Headed off to one of my favored spots this afternoon and this guy came along. Stood broadside at 20 yards, the arrow went right through, and he kicked and ran for about 60 yards before toppling over.

Well, that honkin' big buck of mine scored 42 5/8. I'm happy to have him in the freezer now, but didn't figure he'd feed us for a year. So this evening I managed to add a doe to the larder and a few more points to the team score. But that's it; we're allowed 1 doe and 1 buck so my season has ended.
The event was almost a carbon copy of the buck hunt. Went to the same favorite spot, doe came along and stood broadside (slightly farther, about 24 yards) and took off running for about 60 yards. Again, the arrow passed through and landed just a few feet beyond where the deer stood.
I'm having trouble getting photobucket links to work directly so will post a link here and hope it works.

Nope, guess it didn't. I'll try and figure something else out.
