I saw one doe this morning, but she didn't come close enough for a shot. It was a beautiful morning to be out though. I will try again tomorrow morning.

I was out Sat evening and didn't see a single deer. I did see a nice looking fox though. It was too windy for good hunting at this particular spot.

I checked several white oaks today to see which ones might be dropping acorns this year. White oaks in my area only drop every other year, and sometimes every 3rd year for really big/mature white oaks. I found 2 that are starting to drop and noticed quite a few were more yellow than brown like they should be. Maybe it's a result of the very wet Spring/early Summer we had here in SE Pa?

I officially have a planned hunting weekend. It's at the end of October. I might get out once or twice before then, but it would only be on local public land. I am looking forward to getting out in the woods soon.

I was out Monday evening and saw 4 deer, 3 doe and a spike. None in bow range, but it's still nice seeing the first deer of the season. I can't wait for the rut!

Is everyone sleeping around here?

Friday evening I had 2 yearlings at 18yrds feeding on beech nuts. I passed. I'm not seeing a ton of activity yet. I think there's food (acorns/beech nuts) all around the woods, so the deer are more spread out. Anyway, our regular (any deer) archery season starts next Sat.

My season started the yesterday the 28th, no luck just to warm. Lows in the 70's highs in the upper 80's.

So far this is the biggest buck I've gotten a pic of. That flash is a bit much! Legal, but not at all a shooter.
I snipped my way through some seriously thick wild rose and found a great stand set for the rut. Can't wait!

i am heading to the stands this Thursday through Sunday. I hope to get at least a doe on the ground. The cooler weather will be nicer to hunt in.
