Quilly, these guys on these outdoor shows are NOT necessarily EXPERTS. I've seen to many BAD shots taken by these guys. To often their shots produce very poor penetration at very poor angles. You have to remember that they have the advantage of editing. They also have the advantage of(if it dosn't work we'll never know). If they get lucky they always edit and throw in "It's a good hit. He won't go far". And then presto... the next frame there's a dead deer. I watched one of my old videos yesterday with exactly that. The guy walks up on a sunny day when he shot in clouds and says, there he is. When he grabs the deer to pull his head up the critter is stiff and his eyes sunken. I think it was the next day. They also quite often have these hunts in enclosures where eventually they can find the deer. At that point it's shooting and not hunting.

Stick with the basics. Always strive for the classic broadside shot with a double lung pass through. Even then there are always obstacles waiting to jump up and bite you. The bow Gods are always there to make you pay for indiscretions. Chances are if you take a frontal shot you probably will get bit. You can't rewind or delete like they do in the movies. You'll search and hunt and kick yourself for years for taking such a stupid shot. My thoughts are that just about any deer that offers me a frontal shot will either keep coming and pass giving me a quartering away or turn offering me a broadside. If I can get drawn all I have to do is wait him out.

We learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others. The movies are NOT real life at lifes speed. 2 minutes on a movie can be hours with dogs and every camera man and outfitter looking. BAD shots are just that... BAD.
