Buckmark checking in from Illinois, Still a month to go before bow season starts. ..
|
Brent B checking in... ready for the season to begin. Ohio season starts in late September followed by Indiana on the first of the month. Ready for a great season after a slow year last season due to a late harvest. In ohio last year numbers were down 10,000 I believe... thats a lot of bucks that made it through the season. I am a student at the University of Northwestern Ohio I'll be finishing up my associates in Ag/diesel (mechanic) in November so I will have plenty of time to do some hunting. In January I will be starting my business classes for agribusiness. I'm originally from Indiana so i'll be going back and forth as much as possible. I've got about 100 acres of woods in Indiana and only about ten in Ohio... still working on another couple spots. Nice to be back good luck fellas.

Hey checkin in here. Our season starts oct. 1st. Hoping for a good year we had a real mild winter so the deer had it real easy. Good luck to everyone.

Dave Dave Where do you live? -fsh |
Fsh...I live about one mile north of St. Mary college down by St. Mary City. I was raised in Charles county, graduated from LaPlata high many many years ago. I am very familiar with Nanjemoy...........my Mother still lives in waldorf. I did 22 years in the Air Force and have been retired for the last ten years living South of PAX. Currently I work at PAX, nice to know someone on the team is close by. If you need any tracking help etc. let me know, I am always willing to help.
Dave |
Got my stands put up in ohio and scored some river bottom and another woods today. Hopefully heading home to put up stands this weekend. Got some more pics on the trail cam in the daylight my big ten is out of velvet.

Well guys here is the plan. Work tomm., off thursday to get oil changed in truck and pack gear in the afternoon. Friday opening day, will be in stand at 05:15 am waiting for some juicy deer to walk by. After last years miserable season of hobbling around on a broke foot, I am looking forward to enjoying this season.
Time for the "old man to redeem himself", 37th year bowhunting and I am still as excited as when I was a kid. Goodluck anyone who is hunting and goodluck to those guys still getting ready for thier season. BTW, Nice looking deer there Brent. Dave |
Good luck with that buck Brent!
SMA - Ruby (in my avatar) has done well tracking wounded deer (as well as her first turkey track this spring). If you want my phone #'s, let me know and I will pm them to you. We'd be glad to help you if you need it. -fsh |
Fsh.....I appreciate the offer. Strange that you live so close and have a dog named Ruby. We have a shih tzu named Ruby, the only thing she tracks is the dog bowl)))
Dave |
W9ARcher checking in from Wisconsin. Just got back from my hunting property and spent 2 days getting my 20 stands setup with seats and tow ropes. Had to rebuild two stands due to wind damage. They should be ready for the rut after things settle down and the leaves drop.
|
Well boys, tomm. is opening day. I am heading out in a few to finish packing the truck and shoot the bow one more time. I have not decided which stand to sit yet, think I will go with my gut feeling as I pull up to the farm tomm. morning. Goodluck guys.........here we go..................

Dave
Go ahead and take the lead by default. -fsh |
Well guys here is the results/sightings of this weekends hunts.
Friday A.M: Saw 2 doe with 3 fawn.............all stayed just out of range. Friday P.M: Saw 3 doe and 2 fawn..............all but one doe within range. Did not take either of the mature doe "had little ones with them". Saturday A.M Saw 1 doe and 2 fawn. One 6 point buck who may have went 50 class if he was lucky. One spike buck and an 8 point I've never seen before "Basket 8" maybe 100-105 class deer. The doe and fawn, spike and 8 point in range. The two bucks are not what I was looking for and the mature doe "had little ones". Did not hunt Saturday P.M..................went to my sons football game. Felt great to be in the woods with just my thoughts and not a care in the world. Dave |
I vote Souther MD Archer as captain.
sounds like you are seeing some deer... The only place where I hunt mature deer is my spot in Western NY... locally, any legal buck usually gets it.. I will also be in KY this year.. but it is on a rifle hunt with Father in law and his brother in law |
"I vote Souther MD Archer as captain." I'll second that if Dave is interested.
Begin preparations this Saturday for this fall's hunt with the boy scout group I take bow hunting every fall. We begin shooting in ernst in mid September for our Halloween 4 day hunt. Looking forward to sharing my property with the high schoolers. Not seeing the shooters on my cameras like in years past but maybe that's a good sign as I haven't drawn on a shooter the past three years. Maybe I'll have better luck this year without the camera excitement. Gerry |
Best bow buck I have ever taken

I killed this deer on September 3rd. This is not the best pic. I have a better one but for some reason it will not upload. We scored him at 143 and 1/8. My taxidermist said it would be at least a month before he can start on him due to having to perserve the velvet. |
This is the one that I hope to arrow soon

|
That is a stud Browtine! Congrats
|
Browtine, that is a great deer. congrats
|
Congrats on a fine buck browtine. Missouri's archery season opens today, I'm washing my hunting clothes now getting ready for an evening in the woods.
|
Nice deer, congrats.
Hunted Saturday in the A.M and P.M....................saw nothing. Goodluck to those hunting. Dave |
CT opened saturday..... morning sit saw small spike still in velvet... nothing in afternoon... was getting hundreds of pics per week last month, but nothing over the last month... found out why... 7pm sat night (primetime), sitting off field edge and hear a gun shot right out in front of me and hear a deer crash in woods about 50 yards to left... then truck drives down through field and I hear man and women talking...cell phones ringing, etc... so, since my night is now ruined, i climb down and go out to field... It was the crop damage hunters, who we thought couldn't hunt there anymore... they shot a doe from truck on field edge right by me... so loud i almost fell out of tree since i didn't expect a gun shot during bow season that close... way to screw up our opening day...
i asked them what they had shot so far and they said "a handful of bucks and a handful of does". This one went into the woods and they weren't even gonna go in and look for her since she left the field... so i snapped on them... i don't think they are very fond of me now! ;) I will be going there again tonight, but am gonna hike up onto ridge away from fields and hope the deer are holding up there and staying away from fields... I had at least 12 different bucks on cam and 3 or 4 shooters... ugh... wtf... |
Sorry I have not been on much, just super busy. We did get out to our property over the weekend to check stands and put up 2 more. Confidance is high, We kicked up some deer and saw a ton of scapes. Due to the drought, almost all the corn has already been cut, so the deer have less places to hang out. I see we still need a name and a captain. Our season starts on October 1st, so it is time to get ramped up...
|
went out saturday and saw a doe and two bucks a wide six and a nice eight. Couldn't get the eight to come in close enough to get a shot through the standing corn, hopeing to change that this week some time.
|
Too late to check in? Hope not! My daughter, who is 8 weeks old today, has been keeping me away. I will be in the woods starting this afternoon, however, and am ready to be an active part of the team now. Beautiful velvet buck, man!
|
Congrats on the new little one Bible...
I have 2 young daughters... 6 and 8... they are truly a gift from God... My older one shot her first turkey this year at age 7... nice 19.5lb Eastern... so proud... brought a tear to my eye! Good luck this afternoon. I'm heading out this afternoon to CT myself |
