Team #10 - Chasin' Tail Check-in

Hey hey fellas. I assume I'm the first one to have checked out the team list from our team so I thought I'd toss up a check-in thread quick. This is my first year doing this contest so, I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes! So by all means, any of you that have done this in the past,or want to be the leader here, grab the reins. We'll need a name and a captain i presume. Just post your name and where abouts you'll be hunting, itd be nice to get to know each other. Obviously any trail cam pics of potentials or even past kills are welcomed here!

TX_Hoghunter 08-30-2012 09:33 AM

Checking in. I have no desire to be the team caption, but I have done the contest for the last 4 or 5 years. I was even on the winning team one year. As my work schedule allows I will post some trail cam pics of this year.

Nice to meet ya'll.

Here is a picture of the one I want but he is hanging out on the other side of the ranch and I doubt I get a shot ot him.

This picture is from another guys stand but he is hitting my feeder hard also.

My mem card filled up about 5 weeks ago so all of these bucks still had a lot of growing to do when these pics were taken.

Call this one swoop. I need some other pictures but I thing he is at least 1 year too young.

A few exotics checking in.

Pretty good brows on this one, I hope he finishes strong.

Done this contest for a few different years now, didn't last year and ended up shooting a 132" 8 point third day of season at 10 steps. Hunt here in PA and also down in calvert county maryland. Season starts down there september 7th and have a good chance of tagging one as big as mine last year or bigger as we see some alot bigger each year. I will post a picture of him when I find one. Welcome everyone! Also, I have no clue what to call our team, any ideas?

Here is the #1 guy on my list here at home in central IL. I call him Sticker. I have a bigger buck roaming my in-laws property down in southern Indiana I call "Jesus" he is a 14 point possible 160 inch 5 year old. He earned his name because the first time I saw him last year all I could say was "Jesus Christ!" I will try to get a pic up of him in mid sept. when I go down to hang stands and swap memory cards.

TX_Hoghunter 08-30-2012 01:21 PM

Joe he looks nice. Good luck with both bucks.

Some good looking deer on there guys. I won't be up to the farm until next weekend to retrieve memory cards but I'll post what I find!
I don't really have any ideas for a name here, I also don't think I'd be the best choice for captain here lol if I'm honest. I've got a pretty busy work schedule(not that you all don't) but especially when we get in season I have no Internet access in the bluffs where we hunt! Hopefully someone's willing to step up and take it away here.

henson59 08-30-2012 06:03 PM

Here are some names to think about, "Chasin' Tail", "tree stand snipers", "Team BBD", "white tail mafia", "Team Trophy Time", "Team Prime Time", "Tree Stand Mafia".

Chasin' tail sounds good to me too guys! There are some periods where I won't be able to check in too often as i farm and help another dairy down the road so it gets fairly hectic during harvest times but I will try to keep you guys posted as to whats going on. Anyone tried contacting the 5 MIA teammates?

henson59 09-03-2012 07:51 AM

No, they have until sept. 15th to check in. But if somebody wants to send them a PM go for it.

youngfart 09-03-2012 03:12 PM

Hey Team Mates
Was out for a last time get to gether with my kids and grandkids fishing the weekend here. Caught zero but was awesome getting together with family & freinds. My season starts on the 5th,will I be on stand then!! I doubt it :bash:. Will be ready for sure by next week. 47 stands are in place checked and cleared, just need some of the big boys to start showing up on my trail cameras to get the ole blood flowing. I hunt the Edmonton Bow Zone here in Alberta. We won this 2 years ago and came 4th last year. I' must say I would'nt be able to help out running the team as I'm to comitted to my being on stand and helping out less fortunate people to get into bowhunting. Any name is good for me also. I'll check iin daily ,good luck to everyone and please ,where a safety belt while on stand.
Rocky

Alltlk4 09-04-2012 06:33 AM

Alltlk4 checking in. Just back to work after a long weekend and thought I would find my team and check in. I am in NW Missouri. Our season opens up in a little over a week but I don't do a lot of hunting till the end of October. But I will be checking in weekly though. I am good with Chasing Tail.

henson59 09-04-2012 01:55 PM

Well Unless one of the people who havn't checked in have their heart set on it I submit my name for team captain. Also we have a majority so our team name is "chasin' Tail". Do we want to come up with some kind of Avatar for our team?

TeamWiscoUNIT61 09-04-2012 03:32 PM

Changed the thread heading for us. Henson, thanks for volunteering for team captain and steerheading the operation here. I think an avatar would be kind of cool. I'll tinker with some ideas and see what we can come up with?

henson59 09-04-2012 04:47 PM

yeah no problem. I know we all are super busy this time of year and I have no problem stepping up for the team. Go ahead and put together an avatar if you have time. that would be great!

I think we should do well in this contest. Just about every team member is from a quality deer state so we should do great!

TeamWiscoUNIT61 09-04-2012 05:11 PM

I will add that i passed on this 10 point last year, and out of that same stand I was drawn on a 160 class 12 point that just happened to avoid me getting the shot off on him. I am looking forward to more encounters with the addition of food plots and water holes. Hoping to add to the team effort!

henson59 09-05-2012 05:44 AM

thats a great picture. I would have had a tough time letting him walk by unless I knew I had bigger deer roaming the area!

TX_Hoghunter 09-05-2012 06:51 AM

Sounds great but I would change the title to Team 10 Chasin' tail Check-in. It will make it easier to find.

Good Lord! It's been a long time since you and I have exchanged posts on here. I suppose that's because it's been a long time since I've been on here. How've you been, Rocky?

If you want the job it's all yours. I'm an old Navy Chief and I'm just not officer material. :party0005:

henson59 09-05-2012 12:12 PM

Well LittleChief since you are retired I wouldn't want to burden you with anything other then putting a big buck on the ground and filling your freezer.:party0005: I will captain this ship and hopefully lead us to a victory.

Also, Youngfart you have 47 stands to hunt? Do you work for an outfitter or something? my goodness thats alot of stands if your not. lol!!!

Oct. 1st is opening day here in IL and I can't wait! I finished hanging a few stands labor day weekend and I am good to go here in IL. My spot in Indiana is a different story. I was supposed to take the 4hour trip this weekend but with all the rain they predicted I decided to stay home. Well sure enough they only got a few inches down on the farm and I missed a good weekend to hang my Indiana stands. I should have them done later this month. I should also have a better idea of what deer are around as well when I pull memory cards. Rumor has it Blue Tongue is killing alot of deer in southern Indiana and southern IL this year.

TX_Hoghunter 09-05-2012 12:26 PM

Well out season starts in 23 days. I am headed down to the lease on Friday for my last trip before the season starts. I currently have 5 cameras out so hopefully we will have some decent pictures to look at.

henson59 09-05-2012 01:46 PM

John, how many acres do you lease?

youngfart 09-05-2012 08:30 PM

Are you the same as the Little Cheif on Bowhuntingnet.com bow contest? Man my age is killing my mind ,I can't remember anyone any more ,LMAO. Captain I have 47 stands ,but had 61 at one time. I'll dwindle it down next year also to about 30. It's getting to hard to get out and about, I'm no spring chicken anymore. Will retire in 3 years and am starting to feel the cold as in last year. Arthritis just about killed me last winter. I invested in the Bodybag for this year to keep me toasty on those -40 all day long sits during the rutt. Looking forward to trying it out,I've already practice with it. Pretty good invention, now maybe I can wear my Mucks all winter long with out having to put on the heavy duty boots for -50. They weigh 10 pounds each, try walking a mile in knee high snow with those on. It's getting harder every year. Enough complaining, let's tell one another where were all from and what prospects we have for this year. Trail cam pictures would be a bonus too.

youngfart 09-05-2012 08:35 PM

TeamWiscoUNIT61
That's a pretty decent buck to pass ,probably close to 135 I'd say. Nice when you can do that and know that there are bigger out there. Good luck this year, just don't let to many walk, sometimes it can back fire and leave you eating tag soup.
Rocky

henson59 09-06-2012 05:38 AM

Well my name is Joe I am 28 and I live in a small town in Champaign County IL. I bow hunt my cousins small farm about 10 minutes away from my house. I also shotgun/bow hunt in Wayne county IL (2hrs south of me) on some family friends ground. My grand parents used to farm in that area so my dad, brother, uncle, 2 cousins and myself still go down to see old friends and hunt.

My inlaws also own 100 acres in Ohio county Indiana that I bow/shotgun hunt and this will be my second year hunting that property. It is really hilly so the exact oposite of what I am used to in IL. I haven't really been able to scout it like I would like since it's 4 hours away. I know it has big deer on the property and I have an idea where they might be so we will see what happens this season. The issue I am trying to work on is the Doe population. It has lots of slick heads running around so we are trying to :fighting0007: as many as possible this year to get a better ratio.

My bow is a Ross Carnage with gold tip arrows and Rage broadheads.
I also shotgun hunt with a Savage 220 with a Nikon slug hunter on top.

It should be a good season for me. I have scouted more then I ever have before and I have more time set aside this season to hunt
(god bless my wife! LOL!!!!)

henson59 09-06-2012 05:40 AM

Here is a picture of a monster who might just make my 2016 hit list!

Yeaaa i know, i had guessed 130's as well. It was pretty early in the season, and to your point, i did know that there were bigger around. I ran into one of the bigger. grunted at this buck who was walking quartering away about 70 yds out uphill to my left, he turned around some treefall and made a line towards me. He was uphill of my stand and out in front of me, so about level with me. He was at 20 yds and i drew on him. Right as I drew I see a super small tree branch that runs horizontal alllll the way across his vitals. would i have hit it if i touched off a shot? 99.9% sure i wouldnt in heindsight, but it being there right in my peep/pin line threw me off. So i waited for him to take that one last step, at full draw for close to 2 minutes..and he never did. I had to let down and watch a 160 class main frame 12 bound away. ah well. He'd be quite the buck this year!

We lease 800 acres in the Texas hill country. I am about 99% sure that my deer will come from there, but we also own 108 acres one county over from the house. It has some deer one it but I doubt there is a buck old enough over there to get my attention, but you never know. My cousin shot a 156 inch 8 point about 4 miles from there 2 years ago.

henson59 09-06-2012 06:52 AM

Well you guys sure have enough land. Some times its the spots you over look that have the big boys! One of these days I will talk the wife into letting me go on a Texas hunt. I may have to build her a new house or buy her a horse or something like that first lol!

I have also sent a PM to the last 3 members of our team.

LittleChief 09-06-2012 08:15 AM

Yeah, that's me. I have the same user name on this forum, Bowhunting.com, Tradgang and AT, but I only have an AT account so I can check out the occasional thread that has info I need. I have no desire to mix it up with that group.

While I don't have any trail cameras set up on private land, I'm very excited about this season. I'll be kicking it off next weekend on the 15th in Missouri. The next weekend I'll be in Great Lakes, IL for my daughter's graduation from Navy Boot Camp. Then it'll be weekend hunts alternating between Tennessee and Arkansas until the first week of November when I head out on a 9 day rut hunt in Ohio. I can't tell you how much I'm looking foward to that.
