6 out of 11 checked in so far, hopefully everyone else will be by shortly. Some seasons have already opened but I've still got 2 weeks to go. Anybody have any ideas for a team name?

Ohio Bowhunter75 09-02-2011 11:15 AM

I'm checking in.I kinda forgot all about it.This forum is so slow anymore.

phil_pick 09-04-2011 10:46 AM

Hey guys, I will be hunting southern WI. Season opens in two weeks. Can't wait. It's been a terrible year for my scouting cameras so no great pics of bucks that I am after. I have seen one really wide but short 8 in the field. I think he's a shooter. We'll see though. Any ideas of team names? I'll post a few later on.

Phil

I'm on The Last Bowhicans. Someone on our team nailed a 140" class buck last night. He hasn't scored it yet but the trail cam pics look great.

Ohio Bowhunter75 09-09-2011 04:57 PM

Good for him.One of ours shot a mulie doe.He will kill a decent buck before long.He was on my team last year.

RIStrutStopper 09-12-2011 05:53 AM

Getting psyched, c'mon Sep 15!

Ohio Bowhunter75 09-13-2011 04:34 AM

Not to far behind you.Ours comes in the 24th.

RIStrutStopper 09-18-2011 02:56 PM

Cool hunt yesterday and I didn't even draw my bow. Not 15 minutes in the stand and a bobcat walks by. Later on had a spike hang out 10 yards from the stand for about 10 minutes. I let him walk. Watched a flock of turkeys for a while mingling with about 5 slickheads which included a spotted fawn. The turkeys went to roost and the does finally walked off just at dark. I lowered my bow and hear leaves crunching so I stay put, the spike is back with his bigger brother! It was a small 8. All I could do was watch them until they finally left. Good night in the stand.

Cool, sounds like a great hunt. Some of my most memorable hunts was just as this.

Ohio Bowhunter75 09-19-2011 08:52 AM

It is always good just to be out there.Watch nature, breath the air and relax.

Ohio Bowhunter75 09-26-2011 06:21 AM

Season is in.Saturday the farmer on the next property decided to brush hog untill dark.I was only 70 yards from one of the property lines and he was close enough to hear his radio.Needless to say I never saw a deer.I hunted my place Sunday evening.I set my wife up on the oats, rye and pea field. It joins my soy bean field. The wind was wrong to hunt the beans so I took my 6 year old son and hunted a wheat and rye plot.We saw 9 does but just could not get things to work out right for a shot on any of them.We got chased out of our stands by thunderstorms right at prime time. The wife passed on her first buck of the season,a five pointer at 20 yards. There was a doe with him but she fed just outside of the wife's comfort range.

zmschillin 10-03-2011 07:26 AM

Hey team, My season opened up on saturday. It was a slows start only seeing a small buck and three does. I did end up taking a young doe saturday night though. Sorry, had nobody around to take a pick.

Ohio Bowhunter75 10-03-2011 12:45 PM

I shot my first deer of the season last night.A nice mature doe.I could not believe how lean she was.No fat build up for the winter.

zmschillin 10-17-2011 07:09 AM

It was a slow weekend for me, way too warm. It will be cooling down next weekend and I will be hitting it hard again. Anyone having any luck?

zmax hunter 10-17-2011 01:10 PM

Cold front moving in, spitting rain,.....havent seen any of the big boys for 3 weeks and some i havent seen at all. Corn and 1st planting of beans are almost all cut. wheat is 99% drilled and green in the fields. double crop beans not quite ready. Deer are moving with the food, scrapes and rubs starting to show up. I killed a Doe this am. Good Luck Team!

Ohio Bowhunter75 11-01-2011 12:02 PM

Not seeing much for rut activity. The scrape lines are still bare, very few rubs.Strange year.I thought things would be picking up by now.I passed a bunch of yougins so far.Good luck to everyone.

phil_pick 11-04-2011 08:40 PM

Well I am off for the next two to three days at a spot up near LaCross WI. It's a good spot for does but very few shooter bucks because of the extreme pressure.
I'll keep ya posted over the weekend though. The land owner said that he hasn't been out in the woods much at all this year and the times that he has been out cutting timber he has seen a number of scrapes and rubs. I have yet to take a buck off of this property but there a first time for everything.

I've been hunting hard with poor results this year.I blew a chance on a 160+ when I could not find a clean shooting lane.I went ahead and shot this buck. He's not a monster but with gun season opening on Monday he was hard to pass up.I'll put a tape to him tomorrow.

5575gb 11-24-2011 02:13 AM

Still trying to find big enough to shoot. EHD disease hit us hard and killed about 75% of the deer in our area so it's not looking good. Headed to Canada hunting this week.

I'm really bummed, Shot a real nice buck 1 week ago. Guessing around 135 to 140 10 point. Good shot 3 rib quartering away. Ran into a large corn field and lost blood in the dark. Went back at day light and jump him ( not dead ) blood all over, backed out went back 4 hours later and tracked another 60 yards and lost blood trail again. I searched for 2 days in standing corn and found nothing. Hopefully farmer will find him, when he takes corn off. I can't believe he lived that long where he was hit.

zmax hunter 11-25-2011 04:56 AM

Dang, thats tough, i know your pain from my 09' season. I killed a 134" buck,...need to get him posted to the scoring thread. Good Luck to all!

5575gb 01-13-2012 05:29 PM

Sorry gang nothing for me this year. Could have shot some 130-140s bucks but now days its 160+ so that got the green light. I sure hope this winter stays mild the deer really need it after that disease all but wiped them out...
