Alright everyone, Jimmy was kind enough to forward his pictures to me so that I could post them for him. This is a really nice buck. Congratulations. It will be interesting to see what score this guy brings in. Here are the pictures.

Bucktail_Bob 10-24-2011 07:30 PM

That is a awesome buck. Congrats. Things are picking up in IL.
Here is a pic from the other night.

joejr69 10-25-2011 05:26 AM

KCMO Cityboy 10-25-2011 09:59 AM

Hey Bucktail, that guy looks like a double drop tine. Am I seeing that correctly? I hope you nab that one. He looks fairly old and big-bodied.

zubba 10-25-2011 06:51 PM

Nice buck Jimmy...Congrats. I got some serious vacation planned starting next week, hope to help out the team.

whacker 10-26-2011 02:49 AM

Way to go JimmyT. Great deer. Early muzzleloader season saw me pass 2 small bucks and a few whitetail does. I has a pretty sika stag come in but it was before light. He was inside of 20 yards and I could make him out from the moonlight. He was a stud but it was 40 minutes before shooting time. I'll be out the next 3 weeks almost every day for a few hours. Good luck to everyone

whacker 10-26-2011 04:42 PM

Hit a pig tonight! Canned and grunted in a 5 pt and a 6 pt an heard other deer in the hollys. Let those deer work off and hit the can and caught movement from where I heard the rustling. I had a Doe walk toward me and close behind was a good one. He hung up and stood there for a minute or two while I was at full draw. He turned I stopped him and hit the release. All hell broke loose and the buck took off away from me and out of sight. Looked like I hit him in the upper lungs. Got down 45 minutes later and found my arrow, covered in blood. I couldn't see any immediate blood but it had rained about 2 hours earlier and I am color blind so it all looks the same to me. I feel confident about the shot. My friend is meeting me at first light tomorrow and hopefully will find him. It is supposed to rain more tonight so that may complicate things. I hope to have an update that includes pics tomorrow. Wish me luck.

zubba 10-27-2011 02:38 PM

Any update whacker?

SouthDakotaHunter 10-27-2011 05:55 PM

great looking buck jimmy!!

hope to read some good news soon whacker!!

saw a small buck heading towards some thickets this AM on my way into work - starting to pick up...

whacker 10-28-2011 03:37 AM

It's a terrible feeling. I couldn't find him. I must have gotten liver instead of lung. I bumped him Wednesday night 70 yards from where I shot. It rained Wednesday night and yesterday. I couldn't find blood after he got up. A friend and I looked 8 hours yesterday and came up empty. I'll be out of town till monday and will go back looking for buzzards. Sorry team

joejr69 10-28-2011 09:42 AM

come on jimmy get that score posted!!! i'm guessing 135.

whacker 10-28-2011 12:51 PM

I got him fellas. 23 inch inside. I'm intransit. Will get pics posted tomorrow when I get to a comp

BetterBirddogs 10-29-2011 05:18 AM

Jimmy helluva nice deer. Great job. Whacker that's awesome can't wait to see him. Im in my stand as i type this. I missed a 160 plus this morning about an hhour ago. Don't know what happened . He did everything he needed to do in order to get killed and i shot left. I have him figured out but i only have a week to kill him before the rut starts. Been seeing a big tall 8 also that will die if i get the chance also. We're off and rolling boys and girls.

whacker 10-29-2011 06:33 AM

Here he is guys. Of all things an internet post on a state forum helped me get him within 5 hours of posting. He was 70 yards from where we stopped looking Thursday. Ill get a tape on him this afternoon. My best with the bow to date!!

KCMO Cityboy 10-29-2011 08:00 AM

Matt, Congratulations on that nice buck. He is a hog!! I would think that guy is a wall hanger. You had me worried there for a while. Glad you recovered that one. Explain the post on the state forum.

BetterBirddogs 10-29-2011 08:05 AM

Whacker that's a stud for sure. Definitely in the high 140's to mid 150's probably maybe even bigger. That's a swamp donkey buddy. Nice.

I'm out of the stand now. I think that buck will do the same thing for the nest few days. Once the run kicks in it will be hard telling wher he will go I did have 7 does around me all morning so I'm hoping that once the rut kicks in he will come to check out the ladies. At least I know where they like to be.

If we can avg around 140 on deer we will win this thing easily. That'd be sweet. We have a good start so far. :barmy:

whacker 10-29-2011 12:07 PM

as far as the state forum, Some guys I knew from a MD forum who hunt the same area where headed out there and I let them know the area and they came across him 70 yards or so from where we stopped.

Nice find whacker. Congrats on a nice buck.

KYDeerHunter03 10-30-2011 06:12 PM

First off, congrats on that buck!!!

Second....I dont know if I am gonna be of any help. Just lost my bowhunting property due to me catching my "friend" in a lie about the landowner saying nobody could hunt there...then drove by and seen his truck in the hunting area. Then he posted pic on facebook right in the stand we hung during the summer......yadda yadda yadda

Went and checked my trail cam on the property Friday and the lock was busted off....then he told another guy who hunted there that he has been looking at my SD cards. So he has been deleting pics off my cams, stealing SD cards, stealing bow hangers out of my stands, sabotaging my trail cams over my corn pile by loosening the strap and turning it away from the corn, and now making up lies about me bringing strangers onto this property without asking?!

Been texting him and messaging him and he hasnt answered for 3 weeks....so I am pulling my stands and probably stuck gun hunting the rest of the season on my 45 min away properties. If you want you can replace me with another if you like, Im gonna be hoofing it out on some archery only public land if I want to bow hunt. Gosh...this day sucks

Bucktail_Bob 10-31-2011 09:07 AM

Good job wacker, congrats. I hunted last weekend, had a 100" 2 1/2 year old 21 yds.
He was given a free pass. The rut is just starting...its going to get real good.

SouthDakotaHunter 10-31-2011 09:55 AM

Awesome buck Whacker!!!

Things are starting to pick up... I'm about 10 days out from when I leave for my week of IA hunting - my palms get sweaty just thinking about it - ha ha....

Just hunting around here until then...

pa_yote_hunter 11-03-2011 04:17 AM

Way to go guys on the awesome deer. I am hoping to get out again tonight and see what I cannot get.

Jimmyt 11-03-2011 06:40 PM

Hey guys, sorry its taken me so long to get back on here but I finally got his score back from my taxidermist. But first the story...lol. I shot him on a sunday night about 20 mins before last light. He came through a funnel headed towards a field when i hit my grunt tube to pull him closer, as he was about 50 yards away. To my surprise it actually worked and he came within 30 yards giving me a perfect broadside shot. So after letting the arrow fly i hear a hollow thump. I thought damn!! I hit a branch! Also, the deer didn't react as it was shot. He just trotted off as if he was spooked. So i sat in the tree for about half hour and watched it get dark while cursing myself for missing. I climbed down and went to the area where i shot at him to look for my arrow and/or blood, not surprised to find neither. So I gathered my bow and headed back towards the truck. It was pitch black as I crossed the field, and my headlamp caught a glimpse of a deer laying about 50 yards in front of me. As I walked closer, I realized it was th buck I shot at! I came within ten yards, in disbelief that I actually shot him, when he popped up scaring the hell outta me and darting off into the woods. Once again i thought man, I really did miss. So i walked over to the spot he was laying, and saw what I had hoped for, a big pool of blood! Excited, I somehow managed to talk myself into letting him go for the night and track him in the morning. Fast forward to 7 a.m. and about 50 yards into the woods, and I find the resilient deer awaiting my arrival. Then i realized the hollow sound was my broadhead piercing through his front shoulder hitting the lung and coming right out the other side. My biggest buck to date and what a roller coaster of emotions. So because he had been dead for almost 10 hours and the temps had stayed in the 50's i immediately took him to the processor/taxidermist. I have never scored a deer so i called him to do it for me and he said it grossed 133 and netted 126 1/2.

BetterBirddogs 11-04-2011 05:50 AM

Good story jimmy! Nets are for fishing! I have a couple big ones spotted so I'm after em in the morning.

KCMO Cityboy 11-04-2011 02:24 PM

Okay, Betterbird, go get'em.
Time to hit the woods guys!! Hope most of you can make it out this weekend and make me proud. Remember, don't be pressured to hunt a large rack just for the cause of this tournament. Hunt and shoot for what will satisfy you. I guarantee, if we all shoot 90 point racks, we would still win the contest. So go out, have fun, and try to learn something this time that you can apply to your next hunt.
I'm fix'n to head out with my youngest son and some friends for the youth firearms season this weekend. I'll let him hunt as long as he wants and then I'll take him home and I'll then hop into the trees. Last year he punched a ticket 37 minutes into the legal day. With his short attention that was a perfect hunt. It made his day and I was very proud of him.
Have a great weekend all...........

KCMO Cityboy 11-07-2011 05:44 AM

Here's a follow-up to my weekend of hunting:
NOTHING!
My son only wanted to hunt the morning and he saw a doe and a spike and several turkey. The pattern was nothing like it was the week prior.
On Sunday (just hunted til noon) I saw a total of 6 deer (all doe or button bucks) and at least 4 coyote. How do you get rid of those things? Never saw them last year. Did not see any chasing.
I'll take off work on Thurs and Fri to see if things change before our regular firearms season opens on Saturday.
Hope you guys have had better luck.

SouthDakotaHunter 11-07-2011 06:46 AM

Any updates?? Deer movement seems to have really picked up... Unfortunately for me, I've got work obligations through Thursday... But then it's a full week of hunting!!

Bucktail_Bob 11-07-2011 12:25 PM

I connected yesterday morning.
A 2 ½ year old 9 pt. He was on a trail of a doe at 23 yds.
Saw some chasing but no mature ones.
I’ll post some pics and put a tape on the rack tonight.

BetterBirddogs 11-07-2011 04:45 PM

Awesome Bob. That's sweet lets see some pics brother.

My weekend went like this. Windy and warm.

Saturday morning saw several small bucks and a couple working does that weren't interested at all. Went back to the same stand saturday night and right at dark here he comes. He came in behind me and all I could see was his huge horns. He was about 15 yards behind but I have absolutely no shot behind me. He thrashed every tree in site for about an hour and then headed south like I thought he would to work his scrape line. I crawled down and got out of there quick.

Sunday morning saw some small bucks again.

Sunday night switched spots to a large track of land close to the house. I snuck in to a spot where I knew I could see a big deer. Problem is he saw me first and left when I was headed in. Sh!t. Climbed up anyway and saw two smaller bucks. One was a nice 8 that most people would shoot but I know what's on that place. I have two more days team and then I'm off until. the 21st. I WILL kill a biggun during that time frame. I know they are lurking. I put some cams out this weekend on some scrapes so I'm looking forward to checking them.

KCMO be in your best stand Thursday morning bud. It's gonna cold and still and the bigguns will be lurking about!

Keep the killing up guys. Do we have 3 on the board now?

KCMO Cityboy 11-07-2011 07:22 PM

That's great news Bob. Congratulations. We can't wait to hear more about him.

my buddies son's first deer.it was his third time out he was sitting with his grandpa in a double stand.buck came in to 16 yards took the shot and it only went 60 yards.man were we all smiles when i came up on it:happy0001: ended up being a 8 point 163 lbs. what a great first deer.i told him he will never forget this one.i can take you right to the tree i shot my first one 28 years ago. good job bret!!

Bucktail_Bob 11-08-2011 06:31 AM

Here is my season so far.
I have been out for 3 weekend hunts. My spot is just over 2 hours away so I am limited to weekend hunts.
I hunted from sunrise to sunset on Sat. Saw 14 deer, 8 bucks, 2 seperate heavy chase scenarios, but off at a distance, they were 200-300 plus yds away.
Every doe had a buck on their trail.
The forcast for Sat. afternoon and Sun. was wind warnings...great.
I hunted in the wind Sun morning, deer activity was not nearly a heavy as to the prior day. I was planning on sticking the first fat doe.
At 9:30 a solo doe walks by on the 23 yd trail. She stopped right at 23 yds and looked back behind her. There is a time and place when you should stick a doe, and this was not the time.
She continued on, about 30 seconds later I could see horns comming thru the thicket right on her trail. To me its a bow shooter.
He came right on the 23 yd trail walking slowly with his nose on the ground. I draw my Mathews and I could not get him to stop. I let a rage fly.
I hit it high and spined it, he dropped in his tracks. I'm not sure why I was high but I had loins. I still have 1 more buck tag, and that is reserved for shotgun season.
17" wide grosses 121 1/8 162 lbs

whacker 11-08-2011 08:42 AM

Great Buck Bob! Things are looking good. I killed a doe this morning passed through her shoulder and the heart and she went 45 yards and folded. I also had to pass a nice 7 pointer at 12 yards (prob 115) because I don't have a 2nd doe down yet and here in MD you need to kill 2 does before your second buck can be taken. Also saw another small 5 point and had him at 15 yards. Keep at it guys we have a good shot at it.

BetterBirddogs 11-08-2011 09:10 AM

Bob that's a good deer with a bow or a gun anytime buddy. Nice. We're definitely off and running. Keep it rolling. I'm gonna be out Thursday morning. Its supposed to be cold.

joejr69 11-08-2011 09:15 AM

nice deer bob!!!! the bucks here are really starting to chase.it's going to cool down for the weekend that should help.

zubba 11-08-2011 06:52 PM

Nice deer Bob.

I let the air out of a buck on Sunday too. A 9 point, 17" wide. Had a little ground shrinkage when I got to him, but I will take him. I will try to get the score & pics posted shortly.

SouthDakotaHunter 11-08-2011 07:11 PM

Great looking buck Bob!!

Zub - can't wait to see some pics!!

I'm getting some work and home stuff finished up... Thursday I take off for IA - until either the 19/20th or when ever I tag out.... Can't wait to get down there and get up in the stand!!

Good luck everyone! Keep at it - last couple of days I've been seeing some pretty decent rut activity while just driving for work...

KCMO Cityboy 11-09-2011 06:52 AM

Hey SouthDakota, Good luck on your hunting trip. Sounds like you'll be having a great time while in Iowa. Hopefully you can keep us posted while you are out there.

ZUBBA-ZUBBA-DOOO!!! - Way to go Kurt!! Congrats on the Sunday buck. We look forward to seeing that guy. Nice Job! Now you can tan that hide and make an outfit for that new baby of yours!

Bucktail_Bob 11-09-2011 07:46 AM

Kurt,
Lets see them pics. Sounds like we should celebrate in la Motte.
