Maybe go to another bird for awhile and then come back and bag this one? Anyone else seeing anything? I'm waiting to go again when my kids can go with me which should be next weekend.

Talondale 04-15-2011 06:46 AM

Anyone else chasing birds?

jepcho 04-15-2011 06:58 AM

I've been watching them. I start hunting on wednesday. I can't wait man! I feel pretty confident going into the season.

Timbrhuntr 04-17-2011 06:33 PM

Hey guys,

Hows everyone fairing. I got skunked in Georgia but managed to get a nice Osceola on public land in Florida yesterday mourning. 15 pounds, 11" beard and 1 1/8" spurs. I'll post up some pics when I get back home.

Talondale 04-18-2011 07:42 AM

Congrats Timrhuntr. Osceola are tough birds to hunt.
Your score is 15 + 11.25 + 11.25 + 22 = 59.5

Hey Talondale,

Thanks for posting that score but there is a reason I didn't post the score myself. Those are rough stats. The guy at the check station that measured it told me that he thought the spurs were 1 3/16" but since he didn't have 1/16ths but only 1/8ths on his ruler he couldn't round it up only down to 1/8th. Even though you could see they were past the 1/8th mark. I kept the bird alltogether and I am going to re-measure it myself with my stuff when I get home. He also said if I had shot that same bird at the start of the season it would have been 3-4 pounds heavier prior to breeding for the last few weeks and not eating much. Oh well can't complain on that it is still a better bird than I ever expected to get hunting on public land by myself in Florida. :)

I downloaded this one pic to show the spurs.

okgobbler 04-19-2011 06:37 AM

I got skunked in SW OK. I've killed good birds there 8 out the last 9 years. There were 10-12 good toms with 100+ hens about 400-500 yds away from us down on the river. I may go back in a couple of weeks when they're split up.

dog1 04-22-2011 07:58 AM

Got another one this past Wed. Wasn't as good as the first one but satisfied. 17.5 lbs., beard-9 1/4 in., spurs-5/8 in. both. JW! has the pics. Looks like Team 11 is rolling.

I thought the gobbling was over for us but I had 8 different birds in a circle around me. The first two came in but not close enough, could see them struting when another came walking down an old logging road and ran them off. I had another one hang up about 200 yds from me and was mainly working him. The bird I got was out in front of me (I couldn't see him), but knew he was coming. I shot him at 64 steps when I thought he was turning to leave. Longest shot I've ever made with this gun.

dog1

Haven't been able to go back for 2 days, hope to get after them again tomorrow.

jepcho 04-23-2011 05:53 AM

Sorry I've be off for a bit. Been out hunting. Nothing down yet but ive seen a ton of them. Thursday morning I had one of the best hunts of my life. I saw 7-9 gobblers and 3 jakes in a matter of an hour and a half. I just wasn't able to close the deal. They were gobbling really good all morning too. Heading out again sunday so wish me luck.

Timbrhuntr, just let me know what score to go with on your osceola and I'll get it posted.

Dog, gonna get this bird posted for you too.
I love turkey hunting!! Anybody else?

Talondale 04-26-2011 11:58 AM

Went with the kids this past weekend and saw 4 hens and 2 does but neither saw or heard a single tom. Will try again this weekend. May try to get in a hunt before work during the week. Depends on the weather.

Ok. Got us all updated.

As for me, came really close today, had a tom hang up at 60 yards and was almost able to put the sneak on him. Having a really frustrating season so far. Failed to fill my 3rd season tag so down to my 4th season tag. The weather has been terrible and the turkeys have just been whooping me. I just dont get it. This is the most trouble I've had in quite some time. I'm not gonna give up though.

Talondale 05-09-2011 07:37 AM

Nice bird Timbrhuntr. I've been out a few times and had gobbles but nothing coming in. Can hunt evenings now so may try to get in some after work hunts. This is our last week. Keep at 'em everyone.

Timbrhuntr 05-11-2011 05:40 PM

Talondale 05-13-2011 07:29 AM

Today and tomorrow are all that's left of my season and we have thunderstorms.

dog1 05-15-2011 03:02 PM

I've been browsing all the birds harvested by Team 11, some good birds and congratulation to those that harvested them and good luck to those of you that haven't yet.

Our season ended today, mine personally ended about 3 weeks ago with my 3rd bird. I've been having withdrawal pains since.

I didn't enter the stats on one bird because of several reasons and I didn't have a tape measure, scale, or good batteries in my camera and the fact I gave him to a friend.

I was proud to be fortunate enough to have another good year but dissappointed with myself for making several major/amaturist mistakes this year. If I hadn't make so many mistakes I would have limited out the 1st 3 weeks of our season, but when I look back at it, those mistakes made it possible to hunt longer.

Good Luck,
dog1

Timbrhuntr 05-15-2011 05:24 PM

Congrats on a good season dog1 ,too bad its over. I got to hunt in Georgia this year but unfortunately couldn't get a bird. It was fun seeing new country and making new friends though. I was lucky enough to get an Osceola and hunt Florida which was fun. But it ain't over for me just yet I still have a hunt in Michigan planned in a week or so and Ontario doesn't close until May 31 and I am still working a couple here. Again congrats on your season.

Talondale 05-16-2011 05:34 AM

Our season ended with lots of the thunderclouds but none of the thunderchickens. Hunted Friday evening and Saturday morning and saw and heard nothing. When it started raining again in the evening Saturday I took down my blind and called it a season. In one area I hunt with lots of fields these kind of days are great for sneaking from field to field to find birds that tend to go out in the fields during rain. But where I was at this weekend I was limited on hunting area and couldn't roam.

Timbrhuntr 05-16-2011 10:07 AM

Sorry to hear that you season is over Talondale. I know I will be bummed when ours ends on the 31st. At least you gave it a good go and thats all you can do.

Talondale 05-20-2011 12:58 PM

Anyone going out this weekend?

Kist 05-21-2011 05:30 AM

Hey everyone,

this year is not going to happen for turkey hunting. I'm really sorry guys, but my hunting partner has been away with work and I have no way to get up to our hunting grounds without him.

I wish all of you the best of luck.

(A very disappointed) Kist

Timbrhuntr 05-24-2011 03:53 PM

Well its down to the wire. I have been hunting hard for the past few days but every day the birds flydown and cross onto the next property and don't return until after the 7 pm end time. Well since tomorrow is the last day of the season I went and asked the owner of the property they go to if I could hunt for one day. He said yes until 8 am and bow only. So its on now.

Timbrhuntr 05-31-2011 03:13 PM

Well this won't make Krist too happy but I filled my last tag this mourning.
This guy had been running with two other toms and several hens and jakes in a group. They usually move away from me and into a field I can't hunt. Figuring I had nothing to lose I asked the landowner one more time for permission. Since it was the last day he said in the mourning only and bow only. I can't pull my compound yet after shoulder surgery. He agreed the crossbow would be okay. Alright game on. I set up a blind at the area they usually head to. At 515 am first gobble. They flew down just before 6 but the boss hen didn't like something about my set up and went off in the other direction. I noticed that only 2 toms were in the group. They hung around the field just out of range. At about 730 I saw a bird enter the field at the opposite end and then 2 more. 1 tom and 2 jakes. They headed towards the main group and had to pass by me at about 30 yards. As the tom brought up the rear I put the 30 yd pin on him and he went about 10 feet into the bush where he expired. I watched the others in the field for another hour then when they left went to get him.

He has one 1 1/8th" and one 1” spur and a 9.5" beard. He weighed 20 lbs and 10 oz.
He wasn't the dominant bird but I won't complain.

He is not an upgrade but adds to the total bird count- 61.875

Well I guess that’s a wrap.

Been a good season and great being on the Roost Raiders.

Talondale 06-01-2011 10:36 AM

Way to go Timbrhuntr!! Two nice birds.

Sorry to hear your season was a bust Kist.

Anyone else have any season left? On a separate note my Dad and I drew elk tags for the CO muzzle loader season!
