Thre are are several reasons.Probably number 1 is the fair chase rule. Number 2 Vital areas # 3 bullet deflection and skipping.Other than the head And a bit of neck And a little of the back, what other vital area can you see?Bulets could be zipping eveywhere. All you may see is a splash and assuume a miss. But back to # 1 rule, ask a war vet what happens. They zip through arms legs, knees. Same thing with animals. Also do you really think they will swim straight across? Highly doubt it, their direction will change, that might swim strait away, turn around and start swimming back swim in circles.Wear themselves out and possibly just drown. Again ask a War Vet and see if they like getting shot or hit while either in the middle of parachuting or trying to land on beaches from sea and what the had to endure after they watch seeing their buddies getting shot out of mid air and in water. .Think of their mental state never mind the physical part..Think about it. Next to burning to death while still alive, this has probably got to be the worst way to go.Also bullets can skip along ways across water and ricochet off the wake the animal creates while swimming, or water waves. And yeah retrieval. Add all these seniaros up and possibilities of just where it will end, and how are you gonna get it.
