Tried my luck at an avatar, nothing fancy by any means and rather boring if you ask me.....Trying to get my brother to help, he's the artist in the family. Hey pheasant, I see you have an avatar.....can you get one made for us?

hokies09 09-27-2010 07:06 AM

The avatar looks pretty sweet.

As for what I shoot. I am shooting a Parker bow, beman arrows and bloodrunner broadheads.

I wanted to fill you guys in on this past weekends two hunts. I got to go Saturday morning and saturday evening. I didnt see any deer in the morning. I was hesitant to go out saturday night, because it was so dang hot (high 80s). I sweated the whole entire night. I ended up seeing 5 does. Didnt shoot one, because it started to rain. Being color blind its hard enough seeing blood, but with the rain it would almost be impossible for me to track a deer alone.

I wont be able to hunt again for another 2 weeks. Hopefully a few deer a have pictures of will show up.

kldad06 09-27-2010 10:09 AM

By the way, kind of like the avatar. Simple is good with me. I am hunting with a diamond black ice 70#, 29in draw. I have never shot anything that I would deem wall-hanging material (140). I just love to hunt. I also like fishing bass tournaments. I'm not very good at it, but am getting a whole lot better.

kldad06 09-27-2010 10:12 AM

pheasantfanatic, I think there is a thread in which you need to check in as our captain. You might also put that we are missing one person.

*twodogs* 09-27-2010 12:40 PM

I dropped our last member's name on the missing list, hopefully he sees it there or from the PMs that were sent.

KL - where do you teach school? My X is from Sallisaw......we considered relocating to Chandler but the job was in Tulsa so a little too far to drive everyday. Spent many days fishing Tenkiller, unbelievable how clear that lake is plus it has walleyes.

Dan,

Where on earth did you find rocky mountain BHs? Must have a stash in the closet? Saw those same bucks in a field I can hunt coming home tonight. It was dusk but one had some tall brow tines and at least nine points I could count.

mfd1027 09-27-2010 05:20 PM

twodogs- I used to subscribe to 5shots site. He tests BH's and write's up reviews on em for those that don't know him. Anyways, back in 2003 or 2004 the highest score he gave were to ST's and the RM Turbo's so I tried em both. Personally I've found the Turbo's (now the Blitz) to be more accurate out of my bows so they get the nod. I have both in my archery box. You can find em all over the net. Just do a google search for em. I've probably got enough to last the rest of my life. lol I'm slow to change what's worked me.

OK....Here is what my brother came up with. He said he could spruce it up with color if we want, it's B/W for "proofing" according to the artist......

BTW- I am running with the name, several liked it but if there are objections, I won't be offended. I placed it as my avatar to see how it would look. The name reads much better than the previous.

pheasantfanatic 09-27-2010 06:11 PM

I like it. I say that we use it if there are no objections. Anyone opposed, say "nay" :)

kldad06 09-27-2010 07:07 PM

I teach in Harrah, which is just east of Oklahoma City.

Thanks alot twodogs

mfd1027 09-28-2010 06:43 AM

Nice avatar 2dogs! Thanks to you and your brother. Now I gotta figure out how to use it. lol I have to save it as a jpeg , rt? then go to my profile and upload it, rt?

Dan

*twodogs* 09-28-2010 07:25 AM

Correct, save to your computer as jpeg, then go into the User CP and click the Edit Avatar link on the left side of screen. Bottom of screen, Option 2 Upload Image from your Computer. Click the Browse button, find the jpeg you saved to your computer, then click the Save Changes button.

mfd1027 09-28-2010 01:46 PM

Got it but for some reason it doesn't look as large as yours does. Thanks again 2dogs.

Hey Sean, where are you located in Kansas?? I'm from North Central KS, just south of Smith Center

kldad06 09-29-2010 07:22 AM

2 days and counting. Technically season opens friday, but I won't be on stand until the evening hunt.

mfd1027 09-29-2010 08:09 AM

Man. With all the Midwest guys we have on our team we could do pretty well. Like we said before the limiting factor is how much participation we have. So far we're doing great on that front. Good luck to all you guys that are going this wk. end. Get us on the board!!! Can't wait to read the stories.

Dan

kldad06 09-29-2010 10:04 AM

I would feel better if we had a full team. We are going to need all ten to tag in a buck. Right now we only have 9 checked in.

pheasantfanatic 09-29-2010 10:44 AM

I'll check with management and make sure they know that we're missing a teammate. Hopefully he checks in soon or we can get a replacement

kldad06 09-30-2010 07:50 AM

Season opens here in about 21 hours. Bad thing is that I have this thing interfering called a job. It makes me show up every day.

pearsontx4 09-30-2010 12:06 PM

kswild 09-30-2010 02:05 PM

Archery and muzzleload season started Sept. 20th so I have been hunting with my muzzleloader. Early muzzleload season is over Oct.3rd and I will start bow hunting. I have passed up a lot of spikes, small does and button bucks. I'll start bow hunting next week and put some point up for us! Good luck!
Live it up! Doug

It's exactly 2 hours from my doorstep when I'm at home. I live just south of Smith Center. However, I am in Colby at college right now.

I will be in McPherson on the 16th to play in an alumni baseball game at Central Christian College. I played baseball in '08-'09 there. We ought to meet up, lol. Small world

Couple more weeks for me ...10/16.

kldad06 10-01-2010 10:05 AM

By the way has anyone ever seen that diamond dave guy on springer. I am pretty sure that this guy is no joke. I am pretty sure you can see it on you tube. But anyways that is where the signature came from. If you are needing a laugh, you have to look this guy up. Diamond Dave Ninja School. It is absolutely hillarious.

*twodogs* 10-01-2010 07:46 PM

Going to be a long post here guys.

Bunch of new posted signs went up last week all around me on a old farm I have hunted in the past (1,100 acres). Last year a different 800 acre farm I have hunted most of my life, the farmer decides he wants no one hunting it since a guy decided to sell goose hunts without telling the farmer.

So tonight I go visit the homeowner who struck a lease deal with this other farmer (the one with all the posted signs). Turns out he has 12 guys on roughly 150-200 acres of hardwood, fixed stands all over the place. He asked me if I wanted to join the lease -I said no. With all those stands and hunting pressure, I'd be surprised if anyone bags a decent buck off that land now. I'm more about passing the 2.5-3.5 year olds, all I heard tonight was deer drive...deer drive...deer drive. No offense to those that hunt this way, I just don't care much for deer drives since I bow hunt almost exclusively now.

Seems like as property taxes continue to rise all around my area, farmers are being forced into selling their hunting rights to the highest bidder. Funny thing is, after talking to the guy who leased the property, I stopped by the farm. The farmer was nice about it, but said exactly what I was thinking "Every year it gets harder to turn money out of the dirt. I don't want money like this but every little bit is key to survival"

The good thing is I still have my 30 acre honey hole which borders these two farms. Since I am the only one who can hunt this parcel, I am hoping this new hunt club drives the deer my way. The guy heading up this new club knows this because he asked me to get this 30 acres in his club in exchange for membership into the deer drivers bonanza.

You sound like you're in the same boat as I am. I just found out that all of the land that I have hunted for years has been leased to out of state hunters...and the landowner(that I have grown up with his kids and have always asked permission to hunt every year) didn't even tell me...now I'm forced to drive an hour to my family's lease(we leased it simply because landowner offered it to us because out of state guys wanted to lease it, and he wanted us to have a chance at it first)to hunt. It's really good land, but since I'm in college, I really liked having the land to hunt that was only a mile from my house....oh well, at least I still have land to hunt...

mfd1027 10-03-2010 03:52 AM

Damn! Finding out about new posted signs and new leases in Oct. - Sucks!!!!! Leasing is the trend all across the country with farmers struggling to keep their land. I've leased for yrs. in Ga. so i'm one of those sorry assed out of state guys. I've never leased a private farm. It's always been timber company land.

Did anybody get to hunt this wk. end??

Dan

Well guys been in the stand for one hour and 18 minutes as of right looking over a creek bed with about a 2 mph sse wind about 100 yards from where I seen the 190 last year so far I have seen 5 bugs and 1 tree rat so hopefully something will start moving before to long wish my luck oh and I seen that one of jerry that was funny as hell

pearsontx4 10-03-2010 07:56 PM

well didn't see anything not even a doe this evening but its still a little warm but i will be at it again Wednesday evening and thursday morning and evening and maybe see something with a little bone on its head. i could however see my breath in my light walking back to the truck tonight so that's promising now if we could bump about 40 more degrees off the thermostat we will be good if i can get a north north east wind i can get into a spot that we have had a stand in and corn at for 2 years but has only been hunted 2 times in those 2 years it looks promising last time i put corn out had what looked like a dang ole cattle trail going 20 yards by the stand. anybody else get out?
