They started cutting crops early here because of the dry weather we had this year. Some of the crops are still up though. I saw soybeans that were still as green as they could be... about 2 days ago. I havent seen ANY bucks at all. Very few does. Its a great year for nuts... Acorns and all so Im thinking that the deer are staying in the woods.

Centauri 10-19-2010 06:55 PM

A farmer over here said that it was because of the heavy rain we got back in September. It flooded the Mississippi and the barge traffic carrying the corn shut down. Its getting going fast now from what he said.

get one! I hunt on property that everyone I know WANTS to hunt. We got 170 class deer running around down there. The biggest Ive shot was 127". 2 years ago I found a dead 10 pointer that had squirrel damaged antlers, but I still scored it right at 160". I also found an absolute gorgeous 155" 10 pointer once. It had been dead about 2 weeks. I think it may have lost a fight.... Maybe this will be the year I get a real big one.

oh yeah.. I sold the 155 for a semi auto 22 rifle and $100. Not a bad deal :P

On The Board

We may not have a team name yet, but we do have a buck. He's not a toad, but I'm happy after being shutout the last 2 seasons. Took him yesterday morning 8 AM returning to his bed a tad late. He had bedded within 100 yards of me the day before, so I expected him to return. He did, within 23 yards. :)

I still have to measure him. Forgot and just took him to processer.

bristowboy_20 11-04-2010 01:33 AM

congrats! Hes a good lookin one too!

bristowboy_20 11-05-2010 09:06 AM

2 days ago a button buck walked up 10 feet behind me. I didnt move a muscle for a half hour. It just stayed there eating and looking at me. Finally the not moving started hurtin my muscles lol. I had to move. The deer just looked at me. Then ran 20 feet and started rubbing its forehead on a tree. And then walked off. and YESTERDAY I had a nice 8 pointer walk about 50 yards in front of me. Too small to shoot though. Probably scored around 110. Im still lookin for the big one I saw 3 days ago. He walked out of a big thicket and walked straight down a rub/scrape line thats about 200 yards long. I was sitting in the middle of it. 10-12 pointer, 140 class. He was walking right to me! At 20 yards a squirrel started running in the dry leaves and that buck looked up and snorted and ran the other way. UGH MFING SQUIRREL. I had a bush in the way or else I woulda let an arrow fly. Oh well. The past 3 trips have brought me 3 bucks and a doe. So Ill be seeing more I hope. Im taking a camcorder with me today.

Centauri 11-05-2010 05:38 PM

Well I decided to scout the land I'm on a little bit more and I brought my bow with me. I saw a doe and a spike eating in a corn field and I tried to stalk up on them. I got within 50 yards and they saw me.

Centauri 11-06-2010 04:47 PM

Shot me my first deer today!

Zim 11-06-2010 05:27 PM

Good job Centauri. Isn't the rut up there about peaking by now? I'm hunting down by Springfield where the 5 magic days are Nov. 13-17.

Centauri 11-06-2010 07:16 PM

Yes the rut is just starting to peak. I noticed 3 rubs that were made last night so there are more bucks than the one I shot in there.

bristowboy_20 11-07-2010 07:36 AM

Congrats man. Im still trying for my first bow kill. Rut is going well here. Theyre chasing. Thats one of my favorite times to hunt. Im going out this afternoon. Hopefully Ill bag one.

As for a team name, Team Thunder Grunt. lol

Zim 11-07-2010 03:13 PM

It was frozen and in storage at the processor until my trip is complete. I'd feel stupid going in there and asking to measure it. :)

Zim 11-07-2010 06:44 PM

Here's another angle. He's got a sticker on one side. I expect he'll score about 130".

back from my trip I downed a 110" 8pt 185lbs that was all that I nocked down pic comming soon. good luck all.

Centauri 11-16-2010 06:32 PM

Looks like I'm hanging the bow up for the year. Its been a decent season.

bristowboy_20 11-23-2010 03:43 PM

slow team lol. Im gun hunting right now. Getting back to Bow in a week or 2

Zim 11-23-2010 05:39 PM

I picked up my buck Sunday and finally measured it at 127". Entered on the scoring thread.

I still have one buck tag left for our Illinois 2nd gun season opening in a week.

Zim 11-30-2010 04:10 PM

Fellow contestant pointed it out to me I failed to count my H4 measurements in my buck score so we got a little boost. He is actually 133".

I wonder when they will update our score. Scorecard has not been updated since 11/19, that's 10 days.

I'm going back out tomorrow morning. Snowing and windy here in Illinois. I saw lots of deer out feeding at 3 PM today while driving around. Should be good.

pjarrows 12-02-2010 03:38 AM

nice score Zim, good luck with your hunting

Zim 12-02-2010 08:38 AM

Dang, just missed an even bigger one yesterday morning. I have a special gun permit Thurs-Sun so I came down a day early to set up camp and bowhunt. Really nice 10+ pointer was cautiously following a 6 mo. old doe & button buck coming right to me but the little ones got a slight scent and paused. The big boy locked up for 15 minutes before boogying. He could not have scented me, he just did not like the other's behavior. Dam he was at 50 yards I could have taken him if it had been Thurs morning! Was about 145" maybe 150".

Temps dropping and snow Friday night. I'm hoping deer will come out early to feed.

Thanks, I've never taken a P&Y buck that was only a basic 8 pointer, but I think he will qualify. The sticker is kind of unusual, coming from the G3 base. It is an accurate score though.

pjarrows 12-07-2010 06:00 AM

How are the other team members doing give us an update......

Zim 12-21-2010 09:50 AM

Anybody still bowhunting? I'm out to take 2 does for friends, and still have a buck tag. Will get out a couple days this week and next.

Finally retired my battle scarred insulated coveralls after 8 years due to trashed zipper. They have real nice ones on sale 30% off at Gander Mtn. Were only $75 with tax so I got some.

pjarrows 12-22-2010 02:26 AM

Season here in NY ended on Tuesday the 21st, good luck to all that are still hunting
