Sounds good to me, I'm game for you being captain if you want also. I would but its been hectic around here and I'm not on the computer as much as I'd like to. Need to decide soon before we make the HNI Gods upset waiting on us!:s3:
Good luck everyone!

schaffee10 11-11-2009 06:19 AM

OK since know one else is posting as of right now......I will take the captain position and the Team Name will be Mourning Does.

If someone comes along later and wants to do this let me know and I will be glad to step aside, however at this point someone needs to do something.

However I dont know how I will be able to edit the first post so we may need to start another Official thread, I'll let you know.

Anyone want to make an avatar for us?

jrbsr 11-11-2009 02:27 PM

Has any one on team # 6 sent a PM to 8.Alt - rossville22 from MD ?

We need to give him a chance to check in.
Let me know if he doesn't check in after a week from now.

Thank you

jrbsr

I will be out this weekend in WI as our gun season opens up here. Can't wait!

whitetaildreamer 11-16-2009 02:41 PM

Capt. and name aok with me. 1 in archery, 0 in ML, and filled my antlerless tag today (where do I post the pic for our 25 points). With 2 in the freezer I'm going to be somewhat selective this weekend. Hopefully one of them with those pointy things sticking out of his head will pass through my cross hairs. Good luck again to all of you and remember to be safe,

schaffee10 11-16-2009 04:25 PM

Look in the sticky post above, there is one where you post your pictures for scoring.

Had an exciting opening weekend. Had a lot of action in the morning several yearlings hanging around all morning, couple small bucks and one med 6 let I let walk. The afternoon was terrible with nada. Did not go out Sun. morning but did sunday evening. After about 10 mins a nice 8pt came out, about 150 yrds out. I am comfortable at the range but thats a long shot, ended up taking it but probably shouldnt have in retrospect. I did hit the deer but hit him low, a little bit of white hair at point of impact but no blood, looked for 2 hrs and found 1 tiny spec of blood about 20 yrds away and nothing else. My opinion is I hit him low in the chest probably just grazed him and he'll be fine. I felt pretty bad afterwards but confindent he'll be fine. Going out Wed. morning still waiting on a mature doe only yearling around me so far.

My brother missed a real nice 8pt was weird because it dropped and stayed down for 5 minutes got back up and just walked away, we found no blood anywhere???? Any ideas what would cause this?

whitetaildreamer 11-17-2009 03:25 AM

Too bad, Just a couple of questions before story time (if in person...we could go on for hours....according to my wife anyway). What type of rig are you using (scope/gun cal.)? As to your brother and the buck getting up; I've have twice seen a buck go down (before the shot) and crawl his way to safety. Something when I saw it the first time just couldn't believe it. I was walking a trail beside a wheat field and a big buck stood up about 50 yards from me. Even though I carefully raised the gun, suddenly he he just dropped. I kept the gun to my shoulder, scoping the field waiting for him to pop back up. About 30 min. later he did stand up but at the far end of the field (a good 500 yards). That was one smart buck. He crawled to safety through the wheat and there was no way my ML could reach out and touch him at that distance. 2nd; I once had a broadside shot at about 75 yd. with my old side lock ML. Just as I was shooting his head was turning to scratch his back with his antlers. When he got hit he went straight down. He was a very heavy 4 pt (easy 4-5 inches around at the base. With his head down we could only see one side of the rack. We stood there for at least ten min. just to settle down because he was such a big deer. Suddenly he just jumped up an ran. As he ran off we noticed that the side of the rack, we couldn't see when he was down, was only about a third there. All we could figure is when he turned his head to scratch, that side antler took the imact of the bullet and that he must have just been knocked out or something. I usually give the deer a poke when I come on it but in this case he went straight down and with all the excitement I didn't (very rookie mistake for not being a rookie at the time). So a couple of ideas why he went down and there was no blood. Better luck next time.

This is my second year with this gun. Indiana just allowed low cal. rifles and I switched from a shotgun to this. Its a Ruger model 77/44 bolt. Like I said 150yrd is my max distance with that gun, however this fall I switched to a heavier bullet. Last year I was shooting 180gr this year I went to a 200gr. At 150 yrd with the 180 I was getting about 6" of drop I only shot the 150 distance a couple time with the 200gr and felt the drop wasnt much different, but obviously I was wrong. To be honest I am not sure what scope I have. I'll take a look and let you know.

I have heard of the antler thing before and told him that too. I did not see any of it so I cannot comment on his shot placement, he did tell me his scope was fogged up some, normally he's a pretty dead on with his ML.

Nice looking doe.....I am heading out tomorrow morning in the rain. Did not go this morning as the winds are blowing pretty good and I want the property to settle down a bit.

mudchicken1012 11-22-2009 06:03 PM

Hi team checking in i finaly am settled in and up and running in my new place .
Mourning Doe sounds great to me.
I am working on changing the team thread to our team name but the comp is fighting me on dial up lol,may need mods help.
havent seen but 2 deer while out and no shots on either of them gl to all team members.

schaffee10 11-23-2009 05:25 PM

Glad to hear your all settled. Hopefully the action picks up for you. Its been real slow around here, but there is still tons of corn standing and I think most of the deer are in it and not moving during the day. Going back out tomorrow morning.....hopefully will have some good news.

Hey guys. Nothing going on for me in the Wisconsin opener last weekend. Saw 3 bucks and one was decent and it was at last shooting light so I didn't shoot. I have vacation starting Wed - Sun and will be out all week day and night. I have 3 fields of standing corn around me and no one's been hunting out there all week and we have been leaving it for the week. Hopefully I can catch a bruiser feeding at night. Good luck to everyone else.

whitetaildreamer 11-26-2009 12:47 AM

Just checking in and seeing how everyone's hunts have been working out. All my best.

bhensley 11-26-2009 06:11 AM

Good luck everyone. Our season opens Tuesday, can't wait! You all have a good Thanksgiving out there!

mbhutton 11-28-2009 04:46 AM

Hey team. Well i haven't done to good so far, in fact i haven't really got out. The rut here does not start till January any way. hope all is well, back to work for me

bhensley 12-01-2009 02:36 PM

Well fellas, season open up in the morning for us. Me and my cousin went out yesterday and made sure everything was ready, moved haybales out of fields that would possibly be in our way, etc.... We'll be heading out about 4:30-5:00 in the morning. Wish me luck, I can't wait!

bhensley 12-02-2009 11:22 AM

Well we got to our spot about 45 minutes before light and never saw a thing. Didn't help that the wind was blowing like crazy though. We waited it out for a few hours and with the wind not slowing down we decided to stalk through the woods. Between open fields and woods we covered a total of about 250 acres or so and never jumped a single deer! I can't figure out why we didn't scare up anything out there. The second 120 acres we went to was an old family farm that no one lives at or hunts for atleast 10-15 years. We didn't see anything there either but did find some of the best deer trails I've ever seen with tracks everywhere! If the weather permits I think we may spend alot of time at that spot this weekend. Hopefully you are are doing better than my first day.

Last day of 2009 hunt

1 Attachment(s)
Sorry guys but for what ever happenned, I;ve not been able to log onto the site for the last week. Well last weekend was our last weekend of hunting and was just overly tired from the week. Sat. was gusting like hell so nothing was moving at all. I was hoping to finish off but conditions would not allow it. So I had to head out Sunday morning and decided to head to the area where I shot the doe. Since I had pulled my stands from the area I was up way early so that I could get in and re-set. Put the stand up in the same tree from where I shot the doe from but after all the commotion of haulling the stand up the tree etc, and being still 20 min or so before could legally hunt, had a smoke and just watched the quiet of the bush. About 5 min after the start of legal hunting time I gave two low and long doe bleats followed by a single grunt. Less than 2 min later heard a twig snap and shortly after a mid sized buck walked onto the trail towards me. How I have this stand is that 45 degrees to the left there is a small clearing at about 200 yards that opens onto one of my 8 ft wide shooting lanes which comes directly to about 30 yards where it crosses directly infront of my stand (no bush cut here, designed so that I can lift the gun), then quarters away to the right at about 45 degrees on a very similar trail as the left. When sitting in the stand the look is very similar to what you see on the hunting shows. This shooting area is about 100 yards or so into the buch off an old logging road so that if you didn't know it existed, you'd never find it (on public land so careful where I place my stands). Well the buck came right down the trail, past the stand so I could lift the gun under cover and continued down the trail quartering away from me. It was so perfect, I wished I'd filmed it. At about 70 yards out, he stopped to check the air (turning alittle moew broadside), put the crosshairs just behind the front shoulder and then let the old 7mm mag do the rest. Went down like a brick. Little rack but I guess every inch helps our cause. If it was earlier in the season I most likely would have passed but being last day, I'll take what my god sents my way. I'll post the pick but have yet to try to score him. Hope all the rest of you continue to hunt safe and have the best of luck.

bhensley 12-05-2009 05:29 AM

LIke you said, any little bit help. Plus you put meat in the freezer. Congrats on the deer! I'm gonna be heading back out this afternoon and hopefully I'll have some luck.

whitetaildreamer 12-05-2009 06:19 AM

Thanks and best of luck on your hunt. Hunt hard and hunt safe.

npockat32 12-07-2009 08:11 AM

Well a big goose egg for me guys this year gun hunting. Pretty bad year for me for gun hunting. Didn't see too many deer at all.

bhensley 12-07-2009 03:18 PM

Well we went out and seen one doe but I let my cousin shoot it. He started hunting 2 years ago and never had any luck so I've been trying to help him get his first deer. I told hime if we seen any does i would give him the first shot. So no deer for me but I was able to set Jeremy up with his first deer kill. We have 30 lbs of deer snack sticks on the smoker right now. We have through next Sunday to hunt here in KS and another doe only season in January. Be carefull everyone and good luck

whitetaildreamer 12-07-2009 04:32 PM

not sorry it's over

Though I wait for it all year and absolutely crave my time in the big woods I must admit I'm glad it's over. 3 deer this year (1-archery, doe and buck in rifle...and all on public land) so I've got the freeser full but with the temp. dropping here to -35 tonight I'm glad to be indoors. Funny, must be an age thing because the cold is just tingling my bones. We were very lucky here this year to have -12 the coldest temp during hunting season and that was just the last weekend. Wish all you guys luck that still have tags. Hunt safe, All my best.

whitetaildreamer 12-16-2009 12:11 AM

Any of you guys still hunting?

bhensley 12-28-2009 02:18 PM

Well guys, sorry I haven't checked back in lately. Its been pretty hactic around here lately. Our main season is over now with no luck. I did shoot that 1 doe in the early season (October) but I don't have a picture so I guess it don't count. Good luck to any one who still has seasons open and upcoming!

mudchicken1012 12-30-2009 05:41 PM
