Do any of you guys hunt out of ground blinds? I have and have shot a couple of does out of them. I don't really have much faith in them as far as shooting bucks out of them, do you?

jjones 08-25-2009 03:36 PM

I do. I have a double bull dark horse. I've killed a few deer out of it and a ton of turkey's.

okeechobeefishing 08-25-2009 04:34 PM

team member okeechobeefishing checking in hope everyone is doing well

firemedic_79 08-25-2009 07:23 PM

Welcome Okee. Only one team member still missing. NYHunter was on the site 8/18. Maybe Rob/PA can try sending a regular email if he doesn't check-in before 9/1. I'm on duty today and tomorrow, but Thursday I should be planting food plots for the rain we are suppose to get Thursday evening and Friday. Forecast don't fail me now.

Jag, I hunt off the ground quite a bit. Just depends on where i need to set up to intercept a deer, if a tree is present and will work right then I chose the tree but often there isnt a tree in the spot I need to set up and a natural blind in the brush/cover has to work.

jag-mag 08-27-2009 01:17 PM

shed I'm talking a portable blind, me and my son will be hunting
out of it, this will be his first year hunting. Just gonna have to make sure I blend the blind in real good.

NYhunter325 08-27-2009 07:09 PM

im here there was a mix up on teams but im from new york and ready to lay the smack down on them white tails

DowningAir 08-28-2009 07:30 AM

Looks like the team is complete. Welcom NYhunter!

This is my first year in this competition and am looking forward to it. Here's what I had to offer last year...

My best buck to date. What kind of success has everyone else had? Obviously past success doesn't neccessarily translate to future success, but its still fun to see the potential.

NYhunter325 08-28-2009 10:06 AM

this is my 2nd year hunting whitetails but i have had some close encounters with some decent ones but yet no success yet and nice buck by the way hope all have that success this year

jag-mag 08-28-2009 01:21 PM

This is one I shot two years ago, I let one a little smaller go early in the year last , won't do it again.

firemedic_79 08-28-2009 07:36 PM

Welcome NYHunter. My largest archery success (3 yrs ago) scored 115". I missed the sign up last year, but historically an average of 100" per member can win the contest.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...g/deer2006.jpg

Due to work I had a grand total of six hunts last year. I decided I would not take anything less than a 140 class deer, fourth hunt I let what I guess to be a mid 130 deer walk.

This Deer is from the 2007 season.

firemedic_79 08-29-2009 08:44 AM

Do we are want to start a new "Team Lights Out Thread" or just continue with this one for the season?

I know some of our seasons are getting ready to open. Has everyone read the rules? Photos must have you, your bow and the deer in the photo to be accepted.

SouthernMDArcherer 08-29-2009 10:59 AM

Fire, I say go ahead and start a new thread.

Dave

jjones 08-29-2009 04:20 PM

Firemedic just edit your first post to our team name and number that should be what everyone else has done.

I tried. The message could be edited, but the title of the thread couldn't. Any other ideas?

jjones 08-29-2009 07:06 PM

Go to the first post click on "edit" then click on "go advanced" and then you will be able to edit the title.

firemedic_79 08-29-2009 08:42 PM

Got it! See what happens when you elect a rookie for team captain? Thanks for the info.

SouthernMDArcherer 08-30-2009 12:06 PM

Here are some choices, my wife said if we don't like these, she'll keep working on it.

firemedic_79 08-30-2009 02:03 PM

I like the bottom one.

jag-mag 08-30-2009 04:31 PM

How about something like the bottom one with the sun setting in the back ground, kind of like the lights are going out for the day.

hey guys, good to see that everyone is checked in, welcome NY! I will be in the whitetail stand next Sunday guys, bear hunting this week till the deer opens up.

here are my last five archery bucks, it really doesnt matter the size of the buck though, shoot what makes u Happy...and the team that wins this is the team that is most consistent. Never the team with the biggest boys!

I have had a great spring of shedding and summer of scouting, I cant wait, plus I have my first Iowa trip tihs year, God willing I will lay a good one down for the team here!

jag-mag 08-31-2009 02:10 PM

Shed those are some nice bucks were they all shot in Idaho?

firemedic_79 08-31-2009 07:00 PM

We know jjones season opens 9/5...What about the rest of us? Missouri opens 9/15 (only 2 more weeks).

Planter 09-01-2009 04:09 AM

Try the middle of October!!! Talk about buzz kill. Everyone in the whole darn country will be hunting before me.:s14:

I was trying to post the last three contest years of entries but the kids are not here to help me. If I send them to someone if they will post them for me. ??

Shed has a GREAT track record of getting big deer!! There's a guy who picks and ear marks his deer prior to the season. Very cool!!

jag-mag 09-01-2009 02:53 PM

I will be on stand on sept 12 here in WI.

NYhunter325 09-02-2009 12:18 PM

new yorks season starts the middle of october but i will be goose huntin til then so good luck to you guys who start earlier than me hope you guys get a trophy this year.

okeechobeefishing 09-02-2009 05:34 PM

Our season starts sept. 12 here in south florida. I don,t plan on taking a buck here though as most that I see are not very big. Have a trip planned for Indiana in early Nov. and hopefully a couple of trips up to alabama. Would really like to kill one in Indiana. Down here have been hog hunting and also doing some gator hunts will try to put up some pics. Good luck to everyone this year. Jerry

jjones 09-04-2009 10:12 AM

Well guys wish me luck, opening day is tomorrow. It should be points for either us or for team 7, I got a buddy coming up from Mississippi tomorrow and he's on team 7.
